Job description

Recon Enterprises Inc. is hiring a full-time Contractor Relations Manager to build, maintain, and activate our subcontractor, vendor, and crew pipeline across active and upcoming markets.

This role is ideal for someone who is people-oriented, organized, proactive, comfortable on the phone, and able to build strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, trade partners, and potential in-house crew members. The Contractor Relations Manager helps ensure Recon never enters a project understaffed by keeping a warm, pre-qualified bench of reliable trade partners ready to deploy.

Responsibilities include:

• Proactively source and pre-qualify cabinet installers, millworkers, finish carpenters, rough carpenters, drywallers, painters, flooring installers, and other trade partners

• Build and maintain regional subcontractor pipelines by state or metro area for active and upcoming projects

• Maintain a living database of subcontractors and crew contacts organized by trade, skill level, availability, location, and project capacity

• Collect and verify work samples, references, insurance certificates, licensing, safety training, availability, rate cards, and willingness to travel or relocate

• Research state licensing requirements, reciprocity agreements, prevailing wage considerations, and compliance requirements before sourcing across state lines

• Build strong ongoing relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and potential hires so Recon is viewed as a preferred client

• Check in regularly with bench contacts, active subcontractors, and frequent crew members to confirm availability and stay top-of-mind

• Maintain a forward-looking view of subcontractor capacity for the next 30, 60, and 90 days

• Flag staffing risks early and escalate before they become project issues

• Attend or coordinate outreach with trade events, supplier open houses, union halls, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and industry groups

• When a project is awarded, assess staffing needs against current crew and subcontractor availability

• Coordinate with project managers on crew size, project timeline, sequencing, and regional trade needs

• Maintain backup subcontractor options so replacements can be contacted quickly when primary resources are unavailable

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in recruiting, staffing, subcontractor coordination, construction operations, or vendor relations

• Working knowledge of commercial construction trades and terminology, including millwork, cabinetry, drywall, finishes, subcontractor agreements, and lien waivers

• Familiarity with the Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan construction labor market

• Ability to quickly screen candidates by phone, video, and in person

• Experience using job boards, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, Craigslist, trade directories, referrals, or other sourcing channels

• Experience maintaining a candidate database, CRM, spreadsheet, or similar tracking system

• Comfortable using AI tools, spreadsheets, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and simple workflow systems

• Strong follow-through, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple active pipelines

• Proactive, curious, low-ego, relationship-driven, and comfortable communicating with subcontractors and field personnel

Compensation:

This is a full-time salaried position with a total target compensation range of $55,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on experience. Compensation may include a base salary plus performance bonus opportunities tied to staffing coverage, fill time, and successful subcontractor sourcing.

Additional support may include vehicle or mileage reimbursement for site visits and industry events, company laptop, phone stipend, and access to recruiting and CRM tools.
