Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) - Full Time

Location: Placer County Corrections Facility – Auburn, CA
Pay: $94.04 – $123.75/hr

Accountable To

Health Services Administrator (HSA), On-Site Medical Director (MD), and Corporate Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer (CMD/CMO)

Position Summary

Under the administrative supervision of the Health Services Administrator and the clinical supervision of the on-site Medical Director and CMD/CMO, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients within the correctional healthcare setting. The NP collaborates with healthcare leadership and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care and compliance with contractual, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

The NP is responsible for delivering medical services in accordance with NCCHC, ACA, organizational policies, and accepted professional standards of practice.

Position Requirements
  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the State of California.

  • Family Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (FNP-BC) required.

  • Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain.

  • Collaborative practice agreement with an on-site physician, if required by law or organizational policy.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and general computer systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure clinical systems and processes are followed in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.

  • Collaborate with the HSA, Medical Director, and interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate patient care delivery.

  • Utilize all functions and applications of the EHR relevant to the position and assist with staff training when requested.

  • Communicate effectively with clinical, administrative, and operational teams at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound clinical judgment, emotional maturity, and adherence to ethical and professional standards.

  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, annual, and other meetings as assigned.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients in a correctional healthcare setting.

  • Conduct intake evaluations, sick call visits, chronic care appointments, and assessments within medical, mental health, and restricted housing units.

  • Perform histories and physical examinations and develop appropriate treatment plans.

  • Manage acute and emergent medical conditions and provide immediate clinical intervention when necessary.

  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and radiological studies.

  • Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

  • Provide clinical consultation and support to nursing and medical staff.

  • Coordinate off-site specialty referrals and ensure continuity of care upon the patient's return.

  • Participate in chronic care clinics and population health initiatives.

  • Promote formulary compliance and appropriate medication utilization.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation, including SOAPE notes, progress notes, orders, and treatment plans.

  • Support quality improvement, utilization management, infection control, and patient safety initiatives.

  • Collaborate with custody staff, healthcare personnel, and facility leadership to promote safe and effective operations.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities, disaster response efforts, and facility drills.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of clinical staff as requested.

  • Maintain strong professional relationships with internal teams, community providers, and external partners.

  • Ensure compliance with all contractual, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.

  • Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities.

  • Support organizational initiatives and operational goals as assigned.

Physical Demands

Must possess the physical and mental capacity to safely perform the essential functions of the position within a correctional healthcare environment and effectively manage stressful and challenging situations.

Work Location: In Person
