Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a member of Central Clinic's Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the President amp; Chief Executive Officer. The COO provides executive leadership for the organization's program operations, compliance, quality, and safety functions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, safe, and compliant behavioral health services.
The COO models Central Clinic's mission, vision, and values through ethical leadership, accountability, and operational excellence while partnering with executive leadership and leading program operations to advance strategic priorities, optimize organizational performance, and foster a culture of safety, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, partnering with the President amp; Chief Executive Officer to execute the organization's strategic plan, operational priorities, and long-term organizational goals.
  • Provide executive leadership and oversight of program operations, compliance, quality improvement, risk management, and workplace safety to ensure the effective, efficient, safe, and client-centered delivery of behavioral health services.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate operational policies, procedures, systems, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives that promote operational excellence, accountability, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance.
  • Monitor operational, financial, quality, and compliance outcomes and implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, service delivery, and achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Partner with Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities, and other organizational leaders to align resources, optimize operational performance, and support organizational priorities.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, accountability, and professional development to assigned directors and operational leaders while fostering a culture of engagement, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Serve as a trusted ambassador for the organization by developing and maintaining strategic relationships with community partners, regulatory agencies, funders, and other external stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, advance advocacy efforts, support organizational growth, and improve outcomes for clients and the communities we serve.
What We Value in our next Chief Operating Officer
  • Master's degree required in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Behavioral Health Administration, or a closely related healthcare or behavioral health field.
  • Active Ohio independent behavioral health license (e.g., LPCC-S, LISW-S, Psychologist or another qualifying independent license with supervisory designation.)
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in behavioral health, healthcare, or a related human services organization
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams, operational performance, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and organizational initiatives.
  • Experience with behavioral health operations, OhioMHAS certification standards, Medicaid-funded services, and healthcare regulations.
Preferred :
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of executive or C-suite leadership experience.
  • Experience in a nonprofit behavioral healthcare organization.
  • Experience serving within an OhioMHAS-certified behavioral health organization, including regulatory survey readiness and accreditation activities.
Knowledge, Skills amp; Abilities :
  • Knowledge of behavioral health operations, healthcare administration, CARF and OhioMHAS certification standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, compliance, risk management, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, improve operational performance, and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong financial, analytical, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical leadership, continuous improvement, and client-centered care.
