Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Technical Writer to join the Smart Mobility Ecosystems team. This position will be based in Nashville, TN or Atlanta, GA.
Position Overview
At TransCore, we're reinventing how people, goods, and cities move. We operate at the intersection of transportation infrastructure, cloud platforms, data, and AI, powering mission-critical systems used by governments and operators worldwide.
Now, we are building our next-generation solutions that will leverage the convergence of physical and digital infrastructure to drive unified mobility experiences. To support this effort, we are seeking an experienced technical writer to build a scalable knowledge base from the ground up and transform complex technical concepts into clear, polished documentation for our Smart Mobility platform.
Regardless of the position's official location, the selected candidate will be required to report to the office in alignment with the team's hybrid work schedule.
To lead the end-to-end documentation program, the ideal candidate will:
  • Have a proven track record of creating technical product documentation from scratch, working in a "greenfield" environment, and setting direction
  • Possess strong technical aptitude to understand complex technical concepts (API specs, code samples, system architecture) and translate them into clear, accessible content for various audiences.
  • Act as a bridge between Engineering and Product, proactively interviewing SMEs to extract knowledge, identify content needs, produce documentation, and oversee the review process.

Key Responsibilities
Include the following, but are not limited to:
  • Build from Zero: Create comprehensive documentation, including API references, integration guides, and system architecture overviews.
  • Collaborate on Architecture: Partner with corporate documentation stakeholders to establish and implement the Smart Mobility documentation strategy, including the information architecture, taxonomy, and navigation structure to ensure documentation is intuitive for users, scalable for the future, and consistent with corporate documentation.
  • Enforce Standards: Work with corporate documentation leads to establish and maintain the segment style guide and documentation standards to ensure consistency in voice, tone, and terminology across all Smart Mobility products and the broader organization.
  • Translate Complexity: Collaborate directly with engineering and product teams to translate highly technical specifications, code samples, and system logic into clear, digestible, and user-friendly resources.
  • Deliver Market-Ready Content: Produce highly polished, market-ready developer documentation that aligns with product releases and ensures a seamless experience for external partners.
  • Manage the Lifecycle: Own the continuous maintenance and auditing of the knowledge base, ensuring all content remains accurate and scalable as the product portfolio grows and the product evolves.

Qualifications and requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, English, or Computer Science. A combination of equivalent education and practical experience may be considered.
  • 5-8 years of experience as a Technical Writer in a software product environment.
  • Proven experience producing API, SDK, and developer platform documentation.
  • Proven experience establishing and implementing information architecture.
  • Proven experience creating API references, developer portals, and integration guides for cloud services (preferably Azure).
  • Proficient in written and visual communications, including the ability to produce professional technical diagrams and visual flows.
  • A portfolio of clear, concise technical writing that demonstrates the ability to explain complex topics to different audiences.
  • Ability to interpret and document OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Desired familiarity with Confluence, Azure, Visio, Figma, Kiro.
