Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add an Aeronautical Engineer / Principal Aeronautical Engineer - Fuel System Engineer to join our team in Palmdale, Ca. The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct.
Roles and Responsibilities will include:
• Responsible for subsystem engineering for fuel, propulsion, fire protection, and ECS: translate system requirements into hardware/software designs, allocate requirements, and maintain traceability from requirements to verification artifacts.
• Prepare and present effective technical briefs on all of the above for all levels of consumption (i.e. user, customer, program leadership, etc.).
• Provide technical leadership as Responsible Engineer: lead design reviews and change control, track technical risks and mitigations, mentor engineers, and maintain subsystem configuration control.
• Lead detailed mechanical design and documentation (drawings, BOMs, tolerance stacks, interface control documents) for pumps, valves, feedlines, thrust components, fire detection/suppression hardware, ducts, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
• Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and certification standards (e.g., fuel-system and fire-protection regulations applicable to the associated system), produce supporting artifacts for safety boards and certification packages.
• Serving as an engineering representative in the supplier management team for all suppliers providing components of the subsystem, performing system analysis as needed to serve specialty engineering needs, defining and documenting changes and revisions to the subsystem, and providing direct response to subsystem needs as they arise from the user, the customer, and/or program leadership.
• Define and validate performance, mass, structural, thermal, fluid-dynamic, and durability requirements; perform sizing, calculations, and analyses to ensure systems meet operational and environmental specifications.
• Collaborate across propulsion, systems, avionics, structures, thermal, manufacturing, and test teams to coordinate interfaces, timing, packaging, routing, and certification evidence.
• Define and enforce manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and test criteria; manage supplier technical flow down, vendor qualification, acceptance criteria, and resolution of fabrication issues.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required.
Basic Qualifications
Aeronautical Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience.
Principal Aeronautical Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 years of related engineering experience.
• U.S. Government Top-secret Clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Proficient with typical office toolsets such as Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with fuel system design and analysis
• Experience using Siemens NX for part and assembly modeling, draft creation, and engineering release workflows (CAD best practices, PMI, and drawing standards).
• Proficient at locating and examining technical data from Computer Aided Design and Product Lifecycle Management tools
• The candidate must have experience working with diverse technical teams.
• Experience planning/executing verification and test, writing test procedures, and resolving test anomalies.
• Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access via a Program Access Request (PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent SAP PARs following commencement of employment to be able to completely support statement of work.
Preferred Qualifications
• Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
• Experience applying Siemens AMESIM, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar analysis tools to fuel subsystems
• Experience using CATIA V5 to examine 3D models
• Experience using TeamCenter Engineer and Enterprise to locate and examine technical data
Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
