OAS is seeking an experienced Aeronautical Information Specialist to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Database Program. This position serves as the airport data and aeronautical information subject matter expert responsible for supporting airport data collection, verification, validation, dissemination, and quality management initiatives.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise for system sustainment, enhancement, regulatory guidance development, and quality management activities. This role ensures alignment with FAA airport standards, ICAO Annex 15 Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) requirements, and airport data quality specifications while supporting the FAA's mission as an authoritative source of airport information.

Key ResponsibilitiesAirport Data & Aeronautical Information Management
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the collection, verification, management, and dissemination of airport data across the program's portfolio of applications.
  • Support airport data quality management activities, including:
    • Accuracy
    • Integrity
    • Traceability
    • Timeliness
    • Completeness
    • Resolution and format compliance
  • Ensure airport data management processes align with ICAO Annex 15/AIM standards and FAA airport data requirements.
  • Support the development and validation of system requirements and enhancements to ensure compliance with evolving federal airport standards.
  • Provide expertise related to Digital Airport Layout Plan (ALP) capabilities and airport data modernization initiatives.
Regulatory & Technical Support
  • Support advisory, regulatory, programmatic, and technical activities related to airport guidance and policy development.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, regulatory guidance, and supporting materials.
  • Provide technical writing support for FAA advisory circulars, policies, standards, procedures, and related publications.
Quality Management & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Support Quality Management System (QMS) activities to ensure compliance with ICAO Annex 15 and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Collaborate with FAA organizations, airport sponsors, consultants, and other stakeholders to coordinate airport data updates and initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations for improving airport data governance, validation processes, and information management practices.
  • Serve as the primary airport data and aeronautical information subject matter expert across sustainment, modernization, and regulatory task areas.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Airport data and aeronautical information management
    • Airport data collection, verification, validation, and dissemination processes
    • FAA airport standards and ICAO Annex 15/AIM data quality requirements
    • Technical writing for federal advisory circulars, orders, standards, or regulatory guidance
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • FAA airport data programs and airport data application portfolios
    • FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5300 Series
    • FAA Order 5010.4 and related airport guidance
    • ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
    • Data quality management principles and best practices
  • Ability to translate airport domain requirements into system enhancements and technical guidance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain FAA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials and access Sensitive Unclassified Information (SUI).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting FAA airport data initiatives and modernization programs.
  • Experience with:
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • Airport geospatial data
    • Aeronautical surveys
    • Airport geospatial submission and validation processes
  • Experience supporting ICAO Annex 15/AIM implementation efforts.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001 quality management activities.
  • FAA or aviation-related certifications relevant to airport data management or aeronautical information services.
Education & Experience Equivalencies

The following substitutions may be applied:

  • Master's degree in a related discipline may substitute for two (2) years of required experience.
  • Ph.D. in a related discipline may substitute for four (4) years of required experience.
  • Eight (8) years of additional relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

Location: Remote within the commuting distance to FAA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. and the greater Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area (local travel).ย 

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $102,000 - $155,000

Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. FAA PIV card and access to Sensitive Unclassified Information (SUI) required.
