The Duke Cancer Institute's Gastrointestinal (GI) Clinical Research Program is seeking an Oncology Clinical Research Coordinator to support the conduct of multiple oncology clinical trials and research studies. In this role, you will work closely with principal investigators, research participants, sponsors, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate study activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide direct patient-facing support throughout the research process.
This position offers the opportunity to play an important role in advancing cancer research while supporting patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant research experience.
  • Completion of the DOCR North Carolina State Approved Clinical Research Apprenticeship Program may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Experience using computer software and web-based applications, including Microsoft Office products and internet browsers.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Oncology experience.
  • Clinical research experience.
  • Clinical trials coordination experience.
  • Research-related education or training.

Other Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or a Duke-approved equivalent course is required.
  • Ability to maintain required Duke and project-specific training and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of clinical research regulations, policies, SOPs, and protocol requirements.

  • Coordinate oncology clinical trials from study start-up through closeout, including participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, informed consent, study visits, and study documentation.
  • Serve as a primary liaison among investigators, sponsors, study teams, and participants to ensure effective communication and successful study conduct.
  • Maintain regulatory and study documentation, monitor adverse events, support study budgets and financial milestones, and ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.
  • Provide direct patient-facing clinical research support, including reviewing laboratory results, coordinating clinic visits, educating participants on study medications, monitoring compliance, and assessing adverse events under physician guidance.
  • Utilize electronic data capture systems to enter and maintain accurate study data while ensuring data security, integrity, and completeness.
