Freight Coordinator

SmartTalent is seeking a Freight Coordinator for a logistics company in the Tacoma area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative, customer service, and coordination skills who is interested in growing their experience within the freight and logistics industry.


PAY & SCHEDULE

  • Pay: $22-$24 hourly/DOE
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday 7am-3pm
  • Location: Tacoma, WA
  • Position Type: Full-Time


The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, operations teams, and business partners.


JOB DUTIES

  • Enter and prepare work orders with complete and accurate instructions for dispatch, operations, and vendors.
  • Coordinate cargo movement based on export bookings and import documentation.
  • Assist with container releases, rail moves, terminal returns, and other freight coordination activities.
  • Prepare and distribute required paperwork to operations prior to cargo arrival.
  • Communicate upcoming cargo volumes and schedules with dispatch and management.
  • Provide customers with timely updates throughout the Trans loading process.
  • Prepare and send final documentation by required cut-off times.
  • Maintain accurate customer account records, databases, and inventory logs.
  • Respond to delays or issues involving equipment, bookings, carriers, or work order completion.
  • Assist in resolving customer concerns and operational disruptions in a timely manner.
  • Notify customers of cargo damages, shortages, or other issues and obtain appropriate handling instructions.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and business partners via phone and email.
  • Prepare billing for completed work orders using applicable tariff or contractual rates.
  • Assist with invoice corrections as needed.
  • Coordinate inspections with government entities when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • 1+ year of warehouse, data entry, customer service, or related experience required.
  • Previous freight operations, warehouse, transportation, or logistics experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of freight transportation.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable performing general office duties including filing, scanning, and document processing.
  • Ability to lift, move, and manipulate objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
