Freight brokerage jobs focus on the transportation and shipping industry. As a broker, you may work with a firm or agency to provide product tracking, negotiate rates with a carrier, coordinate customer needs, manage active shipments that need constant attention, and provide customers with regular updates. Many freight brokers also perform data entry, contact customers and carriers by telephone, and handle multiple projects in a time-sensitive and deadline-driven environment. Some aspects of this job vary by need—for example, if you are finding many new customers, you may also need to hire new carriers and manage more professional relationships. Managers have less interaction with customers but may apply their experience to help resolve problems.
