Job description

The Telecommunications Network Engineer - Senior position will provide network management, network operations, and network design, upgrade and installation support for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) enterprise network, ensuring effective daily operations and troubleshooting network issues as they arise.


  • Support all phases of telecommunications network design, implementation, and analysis.
  • Manage the evaluation and cost estimation of voice and data WAN services from telecommunications carriers.
  • Design access and backbone networks using carrier services, and help with the analysis and design of wireless voice and data networks.
  • Provide technical and administrative direction for personnel responsible for telecommunications network design, implementation, and operations tasks.
  • Provide recommendations, if needed, for approval of major network installations.
  • Prepare milestone status reports, and deliveries/ presentations on network progress to colleagues, subordinates, and end user representatives.
  • Troubleshoot, administer, configure, and maintain the following:
  • Automation of configuration tasks at scale using Redhat AnsibleINFOBLOX Grid Manager
  • Cisco Wireless Controllers and access points
  • Network sniffer technologies, NetScout InfiniStream and Wireshark
  • Network Management Software, including Opentext Network Automation, Opentext Network Node Manager
  • Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco ISE, dxNetOPs, dxSpectrum, Splunk and SecureCRT
  • Provide problem diagnosis, data capture, analysis, and resolution of LAN problems on the DLA network.
  • Provide cable/network testing analysis as needed through the use of cable testing equipment, Enterprise Sniffers, and locally installed Wireshark software.
  • Perform network monitoring and fault detection.
  • Maintain network documentation to include network maps, node connections, installation diagrams, patch panel references and Cisco Prime Wireless Access Point locations.
  • Maintain updated LAN objects and configurations within Network Management Servers (NMS) to include Opentext Network Operations Management.
  • Must have the ability to communicate accurate information

• Active Secret Clearance
• 7 years of network operations experience. Higher level education or military service can be used in lieu of 2 years’ network operations experience.
• Relevant certification such as CCNA, CCNP or CCIE, or similar relevant certification from a recognized technical authority.
• DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification of Category IAT Level I or higher
