What is a freelance process optimization specialist?

A Freelance Process Optimization specialist is an independent professional who analyzes and improves business processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity. They work with organizations on a contract basis to identify bottlenecks, implement best practices, and streamline operations. These specialists often use various methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks. Their services are valuable for companies looking to adapt quickly or optimize specific workflows without hiring a full-time employee.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance process optimization specialist?

To thrive as a Freelance Process Optimization Specialist, you need expertise in process mapping, data analysis, and a solid understanding of operational efficiency, often backed by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Lean Six Sigma, process modeling software (such as Visio or Lucidchart), and analytics platforms is typically required, with certifications like Six Sigma Green/Black Belt being advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help you collaborate effectively with clients and drive change. These competencies are crucial because they enable you to identify inefficiencies, implement improvements, and deliver measurable results in diverse organizational environments.

What are some common challenges faced by freelance process optimization consultants when working with new clients?

Freelance process optimization consultants often encounter challenges such as limited access to internal data, resistance to change from staff, and unclear expectations from clients. Building trust quickly and establishing effective communication are essential, as consultants typically need to adapt to different organizational cultures and workflow systems. Overcoming these hurdles involves active listening, setting clear project goals, and demonstrating quick wins to show value early in the engagement.

Job description

Mindgruve is seeking an SEO Manager to join our growing SEO team. This is an individual contributor role with high impact: you’ll help lead strategies across new and existing accounts, own technical and content SEO execution, and help shape how SEO is delivered across the agency.

You’ll work alongside a growing team of senior and junior SEO resources, and collaborate closely with Earned and Paid‑Media teams, including PR, Content, Social, and Paid Search teams. If you thrive in environments where your voice is heard and your ideas are implemented, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do Here:
  • Lead SEO strategies for your clients – including execution, adaptation, and ongoing evaluation
  • Drive keyword research, gap analysis, and competitive audits
  • Help evolve our SEO processes, templates, and quality standards
  • Oversee technical SEO initiatives – including site structure, internal linking, and on‑page optimization – to improve crawlability, indexation, and overall site performance
  • Collaborate with content, design, development, and analytics teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated throughout the organization
  • Partner closely with our Content and PR teams to align on‑page, authority, and editorial efforts
  • Provide regular reports and presentations on SEO performance, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and other stakeholders
  • Analyze and monitor performance, identify trends, and develop data‑driven insights to guide decision‑making and strategy adjustments
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing
  • Create and adapt SEO narratives and tactics to the AI landscape, ensuring future‑forward SEO, not just the SEO playbooks of yesterday
We Need a Person With:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 4+ years of SEO experience (agency, or a hybrid of agency + freelance/consulting)
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical SEO: auditing, internal linking, schema, pagination, JS rendering, and CWV remediation
  • Proven strength in keyword research and content strategy
  • Hands‑on experience with on‑page optimization
  • Strong client‑facing communication and presentation skills
  • Reporting and performance storytelling – turning data into a narrative
  • Experience creating or optimizing repeatable SEO processes
  • Familiarity with core SEO tools: GA4, GSC, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog
  • Strong organizational skills, and experience in project management platforms like Asana
  • Experience optimizing for AI / LLMs
  • Experience working with link‑building vendors is a plus
  • Experience applying AI‑driven automation within SEO workflows is a plus
  • Experience with process standardization at scale is a plus
Compensation:
  • Salary: $75,00 – $85,000 (Pay range is based on a market reference point and potential job offers may vary based on the skills, education, experience and geographic location of the individual candidate. The compensation range reflects base rate only.)

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Additionally, for eligible full‑time employees we offer a competitive benefits package including medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance; a flexible spending account; voluntary life and accident plans; and a 401(k) retirement plan with matching. We have six office locations in the US: San Diego, California; Los Angeles, California; Covington, Kentucky; Denver, Colorado; Nashville, Tennessee; and Charleston, South Carolina. We’re seeking local candidates (or those open to relocation) who can work collaboratively with us in one of our offices; however, based on business needs and unique job functions, some roles may be eligible for remote work. (Bonus points if you’re bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese.)

Mindgruve is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
