What is a freelance process optimization specialist?

A Freelance Process Optimization specialist is an independent professional who analyzes and improves business processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity. They work with organizations on a contract basis to identify bottlenecks, implement best practices, and streamline operations. These specialists often use various methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks. Their services are valuable for companies looking to adapt quickly or optimize specific workflows without hiring a full-time employee.

To thrive as a Freelance Process Optimization Specialist, you need expertise in process mapping, data analysis, and a solid understanding of operational efficiency, often backed by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Lean Six Sigma, process modeling software (such as Visio or Lucidchart), and analytics platforms is typically required, with certifications like Six Sigma Green/Black Belt being advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help you collaborate effectively with clients and drive change. These competencies are crucial because they enable you to identify inefficiencies, implement improvements, and deliver measurable results in diverse organizational environments.

Job description

CTS is seeking a Lead Integration Technician to serve as the lead technician on assigned installation projects nationwide. In this role, you'll be the on-the-ground leader responsible for the quality of technical work delivered, ensuring every system is installed to CTS standards (or better), and providing top-tier customer service and support throughout the project lifecycle. You will report to the Director of Integration Operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on jobsites, takes ownership of technical excellence, and enjoys mentoring a team while working closely with Project Managers to deliver projects on time and on budget.

We ask that you remain flexible during your first year in this role, as responsibilities may evolve to support our continued growth.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Project Execution

• Provide on-site leadership, upholding CTS quality standards and cultural priorities

• Partner with the Project Manager to ensure projects are executed on time, on budget, and to CTS quality standards

• Manage CTS crew and freelance workers' daily jobsite activity

• Help manage project schedules and budgets developed during design and estimation

• Communicate and help manage project risks and conflicts

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and other trades on the jobsite — including in the Project Manager's absence

Technical Installation & Systems Work

• Perform installation services at CTS job sites throughout the United States

• Coordinate and lead shop builds and pre-installation preparations

• Prepare and coordinate pre-installation hardware/tools budgets to minimize field purchases and track spending

• Perform and/or coordinate system programming for audio, video, lighting, and control systems

• Perform software/firmware upgrades and system testing to ensure fully functioning systems ahead of turn-on

• Perform or assist with system optimization and turn-on (audio tuning, console setup, video calibration/color balancing, lighting fixture addressing, etc.)

• Assist in creating wire pull schedules, rack elevations, and As-Built Drawings

Team Development & Support

• Train and mentor technicians and freelance workers on CTS standards and processes — including cable termination/dressing, system testing, and turn-on procedures

• Manage check-in/check-out of tools and equipment for the installation team

• Lead full client equipment check-in and secure sign-off/signatures

• Report to the Director of Integration Operations and Project Manager on installation team performance

• Coordinate inventory and maintenance/repair of CTS tools

Client & Technical Support

• Provide technical support via phone, email, and on-site service calls as needed

• Coordinate scheduling of service calls with the Project Manager

• Document technical support activity for billing and future reference

• Represent CTS professionally in all client and trade partner communications

What We're Looking For

• InfoComm CTS/AVIXA (Certified Technology Specialist) certification required

• Proven hands-on experience leading AV/AVL installation teams

• Strong working knowledge of audio, video, lighting, and control systems

• Excellent communication and client-facing skills

• Comfortable managing crews, freelancers, and multiple moving parts on a jobsite

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively for installations, job site inspections, mobilization/de-mobilization, and industry or manufacturer trainings

• A flexible, growth-oriented mindset — ready to take on responsibilities as they evolve
