Job description

ABOUT YOU

Are you detail-oriented with a passion for construction and risk management? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Do you act with integrity and hold yourself to the highest standard? If the answer is “Yes!”, then we have an opportunity that will excite you.

Who are we? We are ARCO, a Family of Construction Companies. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented, self-sufficient Assistant Risk Manager to join our Risk Management team. This role is the operational backbone of our enterprise insurance programs — responsible for reviewing contract insurance language, administering Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI), and managing Owner and Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP/CCIP) across a broad portfolio of active design-build projects nationwide.

At ARCO, you’ll have the opportunity to build something meaningful, work alongside experienced legal and risk professionals, and drive your own success from day one.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

We are dedicated to the well-being of our associates and are proud to be consistently recognized as a Best Place to Work. Our compensation and benefits package not only supports our associates and their families but benefits local communities and communities around the world.

  • Industry-leading performance-based bonus program
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Traditional and Roth 401k
  • Tuition reimbursement for associates
  • Scholarship for associates’ children up to $28,000 per child
  • 1-month paid sabbatical after every five years of employment, plus $5,000 for travel
  • 1-week paid volunteer leave each year
  • 100% charitable match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 100% paid 12-week maternity leave

At ARCO, our first core value is to treat people fairly and do the right thing. We are proud to be a drug-free workplace and an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.

From recruiting, training, and hiring practices to selecting our subcontractors, we understand that the diversity of all those involved in the construction process enhances our ability to deliver the best solutions to our customers. We hire the best and the brightest from across the country – constructing a team of experts in architecture, design, engineering, project management, and business services.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Contract Insurance Language Review

  • Review and redline insurance requirements in owner contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements to ensure alignment with ARCO’s risk standards and program coverages.
  • Identify and flag non-standard or unfavorable insurance provisions, including indemnification, additional insured, and waiver of subrogation language.
  • Coordinate with Legal and Operations teams to negotiate and resolve insurance-related contract terms.
  • Maintain internal guidelines and standard language positions for common insurance provisions.
  • Independently resolve routine and standard insurance requirement questions, escalating only non-standard contract positions, unusual risk issues, and higher-order negotiation or coverage decisions to the Risk Manager.

Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) Administration

  • Manage subcontractor enrollment, prequalification documentation, and eligibility tracking for the SDI program.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance indicators and maintain program records in coordination with project teams.
  • Process claims notices and coordinate with SDI carrier representatives on active default situations.
  • Prepare periodic program reports, loss runs, and data summaries for internal stakeholders and the insurer.

Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP / CCIP)

  • Administer enrollment, compliance, and close-out processes for Owner and Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs.
  • Coordinate with project teams and enrolled subcontractors to ensure timely completion of enrollment forms and payroll reporting.
  • Track certificate of insurance requirements and resolve coverage gaps or exclusions for wrap-up projects.
  • Interface with wrap-up administrators, brokers, and carriers on coverage questions, claims coordination, and program audits.
  • Maintain project-level wrap-up databases and prepare audit-ready documentation for program close-outs.

General Risk Administration

  • Own the recurring certificate of insurance (COI) / myCOI workflow end to end, including subcontractor compliance review, deficiency follow-up, override and exception tracking, and related communications with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Assist in the annual insurance renewal process by compiling underwriting data, project schedules, and exposure summaries.
  • Maintain organized records of insurance policies, endorsements, binders, and correspondence.
  • Respond to day-to-day inquiries from project managers, subcontractors, and clients regarding insurance program requirements.
  • Ensure timely response, consistent follow-through, and organized management of multiple recurring tasks and deadlines, keeping backlogs current so project teams and subcontractors receive prompt, reliable support.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3–6 years of experience in construction risk management, insurance administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one of the following: SDI programs, OCIP/CCIP administration, or construction contract insurance review.
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages including General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Builders Risk, Umbrella/Excess, and Professional Liability.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with risk management platforms or wrap-up administration software a plus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical insurance concepts to non-insurance audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to own recurring operational workflows independently with minimal day-to-day oversight, and sound judgment for knowing when to escalate.

Preferred

  • Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or similar designation.
  • Experience working within a general contractor, design/build firm, or construction-focused insurance brokerage.
  • Familiarity with contract language review in AIA, ConsensusDocs, or custom owner contracts.
  • Experience with myCOI, Aon eSolutions, or similar COI tracking and wrap-up administration platforms.

MAKE YOUR MOVE

We are proud to be one of the fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in America, celebrating over 30 years of experience as design-build experts. We have completed over 6,550 design-build projects nationwide. We ranked #6 on ENR’s Design-Build Firms list and #29 on ENR's Top 400 Contractors list of 2025. Most importantly, our clients like us, trust us and want to do business with us. We are looking for people with the same enthusiasm, passion, and respect for the hard work that brought us to where we are today. Are you a person that can make a difference at ARCO? If the answer is, “Yes!” we look forward to meeting you.

ARCO does not accept unsolicited resumes from individual recruiters or third-party recruiting agencies without pre-approval from ARCO’s Human Resource team. Pre-approval is required before any external candidate can be submitted. ARCO will not be responsible for fees related to unsolicited resumes and for candidates who are sent directly to our hiring managers. Agencies must have a fully executed vendor agreement in place as well as written approval to submit candidates from an ARCO TA Manager for a specific position before submitting candidates.
