What is a freelance behavioral economist?

A freelance behavioral economist is an independent professional who applies principles from psychology and economics to understand and influence human decision-making, often working on a project or contract basis. They might consult for businesses, governments, or non-profits to design experiments, analyze consumer behavior, or improve policies and products. Unlike traditional economists, they focus on the psychological factors that affect economic choices, such as biases and heuristics. Freelancers in this field enjoy flexibility and work across a variety of industries, including marketing, finance, and public policy.

What are some common challenges freelance behavioral economists face when working with clients from diverse industries?

Freelance behavioral economists often encounter the challenge of translating complex behavioral science concepts into actionable strategies tailored to different industries. Every client may have unique goals and varying levels of familiarity with behavioral economics, which requires strong communication skills and adaptability. Additionally, freelancers must efficiently manage their projects and client expectations without the support structures found in traditional organizations. Building trust and demonstrating the value of behavioral insights in new contexts is crucial for long-term client relationships.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business and Management Specialist - Freelance AI Trainer Project based in Netherlands.

This freelance opportunity is designed for business and management professionals who want to contribute their expertise to the development of advanced AI systems.
You will help evaluate and improve how AI models understand business strategy, organizational behavior, operations, and management decision-making.
The work involves challenging models with realistic business scenarios, analytical questions, and strategy-focused exercises.
You will assess whether responses are logically sound, practically applicable, and aligned with real-world business practices.
Your feedback will help identify reasoning gaps, recurring errors, and situations where AI oversimplifies complex organizational processes.
The role combines business expertise, critical thinking, structured evaluation, and clear written communication in a flexible freelance environment.
It is an opportunity to turn your knowledge of business and management into training data that helps shape more capable AI systems.

Accountabilities
  • Engage advanced AI models using business scenarios, analytical questions, management situations, and strategy-based exercises across areas such as operations, organizational behavior, project management, marketing, entrepreneurship, supply chain, and strategic planning.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for logical consistency, business accuracy, practical applicability, and alignment with real-world organizational practices.
  • Identify and document model failure modes, reasoning gaps, oversimplifications, and misunderstandings of business processes.
  • Capture clear, reproducible error traces that can be used to improve model evaluation and training.
  • Provide structured and actionable feedback on prompts, responses, evaluation frameworks, and reasoning quality.
  • Analyze business cases and decision-making frameworks to determine whether AI models can appropriately apply concepts in realistic contexts.
  • Challenge model assumptions and assess how effectively AI handles nuanced business strategy, operational efficiency, market positioning, and organizational decision-making.
  • Clearly articulate your reasoning and decision processes, including the factors that lead to particular business judgments or conclusions.
  • Contribute insights that help improve AI systems designed to support business professionals, organizations, planning, analysis, and decision-making.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with business and management concepts, including business operations, management principles, organizational behavior, project management, marketing, entrepreneurship, supply chain fundamentals, or strategic planning.
  • A background in business administration, management, economics, entrepreneurship, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
  • Professional or academic experience in business operations, startups, corporate environments, consulting, project coordination, or related areas is valuable.
  • Entry-level candidates with strong foundational business knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to assess whether business decisions, strategies, and processes are logically sound and practically realistic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex business concepts clearly.
  • Strong metacognitive communication skills, including the ability to explicitly explain your reasoning, assumptions, decision process, and conclusions.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, errors, missing context, and unrealistic assumptions in AI-generated business content.
  • Comfortable working independently on structured evaluation tasks and providing detailed, objective feedback.
  • Curiosity about artificial intelligence and an interest in helping improve how AI understands and applies business knowledge.
  • Ability to provide nuanced evaluations rather than relying solely on surface-level correctness.
Benefits
  • Freelance/contract opportunity with a flexible remote working environment.
  • Pay range of $6-$65 per hour, with the exact rate determined based on experience, expertise, and geographic location.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the development and improvement of advanced AI systems.
  • Flexible project-based work suitable for both experienced professionals and qualified entry-level candidates.
  • Opportunity to apply your business and management expertise to realistic AI evaluation and training tasks.
  • Exposure to emerging AI technologies and model evaluation methodologies.
  • No company-sponsored health insurance or paid time off, as this is an independent contractor opportunity.
  • Contractors are responsible for providing their own secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
