CredentialsExperience in sales strategy, leadership, and often industry-specific knowledgeTypically requires sales experience, sometimes with management training or certifications
Work EnvironmentPart-time or project-based, often remote or flexibleFull-time, in-house, managing sales teams directly
Employer UsageUsed by startups, SMBs, or companies seeking flexible leadershipCommon in established companies with dedicated sales teams
Search & Comparison IntentSeeking flexible, expert sales leadership solutionsLooking for a traditional, full-time sales leadership role

Fractional Sales Leadership provides flexible, expert sales guidance on a part-time basis, ideal for companies needing strategic input without full-time commitment. In contrast, a Sales Manager is a full-time role focused on managing and motivating sales teams daily. Both roles require sales experience, but their work environment and commitment differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fractional sales leader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fractional Sales Leader, you need a proven track record in sales management, strategic planning, and business development, often supported by experience in driving revenue growth across multiple industries. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales analytics tools, and sometimes certifications in sales methodologies (such as Sandler or Challenger) are typically required. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and the ability to quickly build trust with diverse teams set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for effectively leading part-time or interim sales initiatives, delivering immediate impact, and aligning sales strategies with business objectives.

What are some typical challenges faced by fractional sales leaders when integrating with existing sales teams?

Fractional Sales Leaders often join organizations on a part-time or contract basis, which can present unique challenges such as quickly building trust with existing team members and understanding the company's sales culture in a limited timeframe. They may also need to rapidly assess current sales processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement new strategies without disrupting ongoing operations. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as Fractional Sales Leaders often collaborate with various stakeholders and must align their approach with the organization’s objectives while driving measurable results.

What is fractional sales leadership?

Fractional sales leadership refers to hiring an experienced sales leader, such as a VP of Sales or Sales Director, on a part-time or contract basis rather than as a full-time employee. This approach allows growing companies to access high-level sales expertise and strategic guidance without the cost of a full-time executive. Fractional sales leaders typically help build sales processes, coach teams, implement strategies, and drive revenue growth. They are ideal for businesses that need leadership but aren't ready to commit to a full-time position.

Job description

About the Role

This role is offered by salesQB. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Sick of Corporate B.S? Help SMBs grow as a Fractional Sales V.P.

If you aren’t familiar with the white hot fractional leadership space, we have carved out a niche in the sales leadership market as a new way to deliver sales consulting. Our 90+ salesQB leaders work with SMBs as their sales management leader on a part‑time basis.

Many small businesses struggle to provide their teams the support a talented sales leader provides. A company with a handful of salespeople has no good option for sales leadership. It’s too expensive to hire a top‑notch sales leader, so they forgo all the benefits sales leadership brings.

Base Pay Range

$112,300.00/yr - $282,400.00/yr

Responsibilities
  • Provide sales enablement, coaching, and management leadership for SMB clients.
  • Clean up years of neglected sales processes and implement a consistent, repeatable sales system.
  • Work a half‑day each week to identify new lead sources and improve team productivity through digital and non‑digital means.
  • Implement a clear management and accountability structure and serve as a long‑term coach for each salesperson.
  • Deliver results without regular travel outside the client’s home city.
Qualifications
  • Strong background in sales management, sales improvement, and/or sales coaching.
  • Proven record of sales or sales‑management success.
  • Seasoned leader, salesperson, consultant, or trainer who thrives in an outsourced sales‑leader role.
  • Desire to work in a flexible role that offers variety and meaningful impact for companies.
