What are some common challenges faced by Forbes Travel Guide inspectors during hotel evaluations?

Forbes Travel Guide inspectors often face the challenge of maintaining complete anonymity while conducting thorough assessments of hospitality properties. They must adhere to rigorous standards and document every aspect of their stay, from service interactions to facility cleanliness, all while blending in as typical guests. Balancing objective scoring with detailed narrative reporting can be demanding, especially when evaluating a wide range of luxury properties with varying cultural norms and expectations. The role also requires frequent travel and adaptability to different environments, making strong organizational and time management skills essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Forbes Travel Guide Inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Forbes Travel Guide Inspector, you need an in-depth knowledge of hospitality standards, exceptional attention to detail, and experience in luxury service or hotel management. Familiarity with evaluation tools, proprietary checklists, and report-writing software is typically required. Strong observational skills, discretion, and effective written communication set top inspectors apart. These competencies are crucial for providing objective, high-quality assessments that help maintain and elevate global hospitality standards.

Canyon Ranch has been redefining wellness travel and transformative hospitality for more than 45 years. As the global leader in destination wellness, Canyon Ranch inspires lifelong well-being through world-class experts, personalized guidance, and immersive experiences that help guests live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Now, we are entering an exciting new chapter with the opening of Canyon Ranch Austin in October 2026 — our newest wellness destination nestled in the Texas Hill Country. Designed to connect guests with nature, adventure, restoration, and personal growth, Austin will build upon the legacy established in Tucson, Lenox, and Las Vegas while creating new opportunities for exceptional talent to shape the future of wellness hospitality.
Recognized among the most outstanding hotels in the world by the Michelin Guide 2025, Canyon Ranch offers more than a career — it offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others every day.

Join the founding team at Canyon Ranch Austin. Recruitment is underway today, with anticipated start dates beginning in Fall 2026.

This role will serve as a key operational partner to the Director of Rooms in building and leading the Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Guest Services, Transportation, PBX, Loss Prevention and Resort Experience teams while establishing the luxury service culture that defines Canyon Ranch. As a hands-on leader, the Assistant Director of Rooms will help develop departmental standards, recruit and onboard colleagues, implement operating procedures, and ensure readiness for opening day. Following opening, this leader will drive operational excellence, guest satisfaction, colleague engagement, Forbes Travel Guide standards, and financial performance across all Rooms Division functions. The ideal candidate combines strong luxury hospitality experience with a passion for wellness, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to creating transformative guest experiences.

This position is anticiapted to start August 2026.
