Position Summary

Reporting directly to the General Manager and serving as a member of the Executive Committee, the Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for leading all sales, marketing, business development, and revenue generation initiatives for the resort. This leader will develop and execute strategies designed to increase business, strengthen market positioning, build relationships with key customers and partners, and maximize opportunities across the property’s diverse market segments. Working closely with Revenue Management and the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Sales & Marketing will lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business development efforts while creating a culture focused on accountability, performance, and results. The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to the sales and marketing team, foster a proactive and collaborative sales culture, and identify opportunities to grow market share and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies aligned with resort goals and business objectives. Establish short- and long-term initiatives that drive revenue growth and strengthen market position. Monitor market conditions, industry trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify opportunities and challenges. Collaborate with the Executive Team on annual budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and revenue objectives. Develop and maintain strong relationships with ownership, brand partners, community leaders, and industry stakeholders.
  • Sales Leadership: Lead the resort's sales efforts across group, leisure, corporate, association, SMERF, catering, and other key market segments. Develop strategies to generate new business while strengthening relationships with existing accounts. Identify and pursue new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, account development, and relationship building. Build and maintain strong relationships with meeting planners, event professionals, travel partners, destination organizations, and community groups. Participate in sales calls, client meetings, site inspections, industry events, trade shows, and other business development activities. Monitor sales activity, pace, production, and market performance, adjusting strategies as needed. Partner with Operations, Revenue Management, and other departments to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Marketing & Brand Development: Develop and oversee marketing strategies that support demand generation and revenue objectives. Coordinate marketing efforts across digital, social media, advertising, public relations, promotions, email marketing, and other platforms. Ensure all marketing communications accurately reflect the resort's positioning, guest experience, and brand standards. Partner with ownership, agencies, vendors, and stakeholders to execute effective marketing campaigns and initiatives. Monitor marketing performance and leverage analytics to improve effectiveness and ROI. Support initiatives that increase awareness of Skamania Lodge and strengthen its position as a premier destination resort.
  • Revenue & Business Performance: Work closely with Revenue Management and resort leadership to maximize revenue and profitability. Utilize market intelligence, performance metrics, and business trends to inform strategic decision-making. Support forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities related to sales and marketing. Monitor competitive positioning and identify opportunities to increase market share. Provide regular reporting and updates regarding sales performance, business development efforts, and market conditions.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, mentor, and develop sales and marketing team members. Establish clear goals, expectations, and performance standards. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and results. Provide ongoing professional development, training, and career growth opportunities. Recruit, retain, and develop high-performing sales and marketing professionals. Promote strong communication and teamwork across all departments.
Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Progressive sales and marketing leadership experience within the hospitality industry.
  • Experience in a hotel, resort, destination property, or comparable hospitality environment.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing sales strategies that generate revenue growth and market share.
  • Experience leading, developing, and motivating high-performing sales teams.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality sales, marketing, business development, and customer relationship management.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, business partners, and industry professionals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred Experience in a resort, destination, independent, lifestyle, or full-service hospitality environment.
  • Experience overseeing both sales and marketing functions.
  • Experience with hotel sales technology, CRM platforms, and related systems.
