Job description

The Medical Assistant Float is responsible for assisting providers in providing care to our patients under the supervision of the office manager and/or provider. The Medical Assistant Float duties include preparing patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting history summary. In addition, this position supports the front desk clerical duties such as scheduling, answering the telephone, and filing when needed.
The Medical Assistant Float must be proficient in multiple Medical Group Clinics and works in those areas to cover staffing needs. They possess a wide range of skills and can adapt quickly to provide care in various clinics, ensuring that patient care is seamless. The Medical Assistant Float is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards & procedures while complying with policies and procedures. Must be flexible as needs arise and possess the willingness to acquire new or perform different skills while adapting to a changing environment.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
Oral and written and interpersonal communication skills. Organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and exercise independent judgment as needed. Must be able to handle fast-paced, stressful environment while juggling multiple priorities.
License/Certification
MA required qualifications:
1) Coursework/Training: Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or alternate training program through one of the following:
a. Active National certification/registration:
i. Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
ii. American Medical Certification Association (AMCA),
iii. American Medical Technologists (AMT),
iv. National Healthcareer Association (NHA),
v. National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT),
vi. National Association for Healthcare Professionals (NAHP)
b. Graduate of schools for MA diploma/certificate from the military in Medical Specialist Course
c. Emergency Medical Responders (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic Course Completion/Certification
AND
2) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must be American Heart Association (AHA) accredited
Education and/or Experience
Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must possess appropriate knowledge for performing patient care. Computer experience preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
May be exposed to infection when cleaning contaminated rooms. Work is in a fast-paced, changing environment. Normal or corrected vision and hearing required. Must speak, read, write and understand English. Dexterity required to operate equipment. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and possess verbal and clerical skills. Works inside. Walking and standing much of time while on duty. Occasional long shift necessary. Occasional lifting and transferring patients unassisted. Lifts or carries up to 50 pounds. Fast paced environment.
