Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI is transforming software engineering by automating certain tasks like code generation and testing, but it is unlikely to fully replace software engineers. Instead, AI tools are expected to augment their work, requiring engineers to develop skills in AI integration, problem-solving, and system design. Human expertise remains essential for complex decision-making and innovative development.

What is the difference between Flexible Software vs Software Developer?

AspectFlexible SoftwareSoftware Developer
Required CredentialsTypically no formal certifications, but familiarity with software toolsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, certifications optional
Work EnvironmentOften freelance, remote, or project-basedUsually full-time, office or remote-based
Industry UsageUsed across various industries for flexible software solutionsPrimarily in tech, IT, and software development companies
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for flexible roles or freelance opportunitiesSeeking software development careers or job roles

Flexible Software refers to roles or tools that offer adaptable, project-based work without strict credentials, often in freelance settings. Software Developers typically require formal education and work in structured environments. Both serve different employment needs but overlap in software-related tasks.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those in specialized fields like machine learning, AI, or working at top tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often leadership roles or equity compensation.

What jobs offer the most flexibility?

Flexible software roles often include freelance or remote positions such as software developers, web designers, and IT consultants, which typically allow for adjustable schedules and work locations. These jobs usually require strong technical skills and familiarity with remote collaboration tools, making them suitable for those seeking high flexibility.

What is L1, L2, L3, and L4 developer?

In software development, L1, L2, L3, and L4 often refer to different levels of technical support or developer seniority, with L1 being entry-level or support roles, and L4 representing senior or lead developers. These levels help organizations categorize skills, experience, and responsibilities, often influencing salary and career progression. For a flexible software developer role, understanding these levels can clarify expectations and growth opportunities.

Job description

THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it

We're looking for passionate technologists, strong communicators and those with a commitment to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have the confidence to propose pragmatic solutions to complex problems and be eager to learn from and educate others. As a Software Engineer, you will work in empowered, multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products for a growing community of millions of players.

You use technology to solve straightforward problems, seeking input and guidance from team members. You may create or have responsibility to improve or invent small tools or applications. You can take defined design and turn it into code and deliver it on schedule, applying appropriate technologies and current software engineering best practices. You write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects. You are proficient in a broad range of data structures and algorithms, knowing when it is appropriate to use them and when it is not. You make appropriate implementation trade-off decisions. You participate in team design, scoping and prioritization discussions. You seek to learn the business context and technologies behind your team's software. You work effectively with other team members & identify any opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions. You invent, refine and develop your solutions to ensure they are meeting customer needs and team goals. You are a passionate advocate for your customer.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

Your work is consistently of high quality. You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices. You work with your team to invent, design, and build software that is stable and performant. You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them and when it is not. Your solutions are pragmatic. You consider the legacy of the code you produce and write code that an Engineer unfamiliar with the system can understand. You limit the use of short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or minimize incidental complexity). You create flexible software without over-engineering, and you don't let perfect be the enemy of good. You make appropriate trade-offs, reuse where possible, and are judicious about introducing dependencies. You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.) and understand that cost is another factor incorporated into design.

  • Responsible for the state of the code you both inherit and produce.
  • You write simple and extendable code following standards and best practices. You test your code thoroughly. You help balance customer requirements with the team requirements.
  • You help your team evolve by actively participating in the code review process, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews.
  • You classify, store, and handle data in accordance with FanDuel policies.
  • You understand the maintenance characteristics, run-time properties, and dependencies of your team's software, including hardware platform, operating system and build dependencies.
  • You clearly document your software to ensure that future generations of developers understand the intention behind the features and components you build.
  • In the event of a problem, you can troubleshoot, research the root cause of problems, and thoroughly resolve defects.
  • You provide excellent customer support.
  • You will keep yourself up to date with market standards, open-source frameworks.
  • Most importantly, you are humble, pragmatic, self-managed, thirsty for knowledge, never satisfied and always challenging the norm.

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience and passion for writing distributed, highly scalable, and available backend systems & APIs using Java.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining mobile and web applications with experience in React and/or React Native.
  • Knowledge of release process best practices for APIs and services within production systems.
  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
  • Understanding DevOps concepts such as containers (e.g. Docker), orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation or Terraform).
  • Knowledge of testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices in the SDLC.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Demonstrated abilities driving operational excellence and best practices.
  • Passion for working within a fast-paced environment and can adapt to change.
