Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it's equally important you know that the company that you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

Role Overview

The Senior Manager, IT Asset Management (ITAM) will lead the strategy, governance, and execution of a global IT Asset Management function within a large, complex enterprise environment. This role is accountable for establishing enterprise standards, driving governance maturity, and ensuring IT assets are managed as strategic business resources across their full lifecycle.

This position requires strong enterprise ITAM leadership experience and a deep working knowledge of Flexera One IT Asset Management and IT Visibility. While the role does not perform day-to-day system administration, the successful candidate must understand the platform, its capabilities, and its role in the broader IT ecosystem well enough to set direction, guide teams, and hold partners accountable for outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise IT Asset Management Leadership

  • Define and lead the global IT Asset Management strategy, aligning ITAM practices with enterprise technology, sourcing, financial, and risk objectives.
  • Lead a worldwide ITAM organization, establishing clear operating models, roles, and performance expectations across regions.
  • Standardize IT Asset Management practices across hardware, software, SaaS, and emerging technology domains.
  • Position ITAM as a core enterprise capability, supporting cost optimization, compliance, risk management, and executive decision-making.

Platform Strategy & Governance (Flexera One)

  • Serve as the business and governance owner of the Flexera One IT Asset Management and IT Visibility platforms.
  • Set platform vision, standards, and success metrics while delegating hands-on configuration and administration to operational teams or managed service providers.
  • Ensure Flexera is effectively leveraged to support:
    • Accurate and trusted asset visibility
    • Entitlement and license position integrity
    • Audit readiness and compliance posture
    • Technology spend optimization
  • Provide leadership oversight of integrations with enterprise systems (e.g., ITSM, procurement, discovery, ERP), ensuring data quality and alignment without acting as a technical integrator.

IT Asset Governance & Entitlements

  • Establish and lead enterprise IT Asset Governance, partnering closely with IT, Procurement, Finance, Security, and Legal.
  • Own the enterprise approach to software and hardware entitlements, licensing strategy, and compliance risk management.
  • Guide vendor audit strategy and executive-level risk discussions.
  • Deliver clear, executive-ready reporting on asset health, financial exposure, compliance status, and optimization opportunities.

ITIL, CMDB, and ITSM Alignment

  • Ensure IT Asset Management practices are aligned with ITIL-based service management processes.
  • Partner with ITSM and architecture teams to ensure asset data appropriately supports the CMDB, service models, and lifecycle workflows.
  • Use ITAM insights to strengthen change decisions, service reliability, and financial transparency.
  • Influence process and data standards without owning day-to-day ITSM tool administration.

Strategic Value & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement of ITAM governance, maturity, and outcomes across the enterprise.
  • Drive measurable business value such as reduced audit risk, improved compliance, optimized spend, and improved asset lifecycle decisions.
  • Translate technical and operational data into business-focused insights and recommendations for senior leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or technology field (completed and verified prior to start)

  • Ten (10) years of experience in IT Asset Management, Software Asset Management, or related enterprise leadership roles in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, global ITAM programs in complex or federated organizations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Flexera One IT Asset Management and IT Visibility, with the ability to set strategy, evaluate outcomes, and govern execution.
  • Deep understanding of IT asset lifecycle management, entitlement management, and governance frameworks.
  • Solid background in ITIL-aligned service management and collaboration with CMDB / ITSM teams.
  • Proven ability to influence across executive, functional, and geographic boundaries.
