Job description

Lead the Middle Office function for GMA Operations with primary responsibility for the Customized Bond Portfolio (CBP) fixed income SMA, while also designing and building the Middle Office support model for Tax Smart SMA offerings.  These managed account solutions currently represent more than $300B in assets across more than 200,000 accounts and are a key growth focus for Asset Management.

As an Executive Director in the AWM Operations Middle Office, you will balance run-the-business (service delivery, controls, and issue management) with change-the-business leadership (operating model design, capacity build, process redesign, and automation). The role inherits an existing team and will expand capabilities in close partnership with global stakeholders, including key internal partners in India.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end fixed income SMA middle office delivery for CBP, including implementation support, restrictions, portfolio transitions, rebalancing support, exception/break management, and timely resolution of client-impact items.
  • Define and build the tax-managed SMA middle office capability, including operating model, governance, roles & responsibilities, procedures, controls, and service levels.
  • Establish a scalable global delivery model across locations/time zones, with clear ownership, handoffs, and performance routines in partnership with internal teams in India.
  • Create a strong control and risk environment across both fixed income SMA and tax-managed SMA scope: preventive/detective controls, issues remediation, operational risk assessments, and audit/regulatory readiness.
  • Partner with Product, Technology, Investments, Risk, Legal/Compliance, and Client teams to support platform stability, enable growth, and deliver new capabilities.
  • Identify and execute automation/STP and process improvement opportunities to improve cycle time, quality, scalability, and operational resiliency.
  • Establish and monitor relevant KPIs / KRIs (throughput, timeliness, exception rates, quality, client impact, and control performance) and lead performance management routines.
  • Build and develop the organization: manage an existing team supporting fixed income SMA while hiring/upskilling for future-state capabilities (controls leadership, analytics, process engineering, and platform expertise); coach leaders and contributors, develop a strong future-ready bench and strengthen succession plans.
  • Provide clear, executive-level communications on operating health, risks, dependencies, and investment needs across both scopes.

Required qualifications, skills, and capabilities:

  • Significant experience in asset management operations, ideally middle office supporting managed accounts/custom portfolios.
  • Senior leadership experience managing teams and delivering outcomes in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated strength in operational risk, controls, governance, and issue management, including audit engagement.
  • Proven ability to lead complex change (operating model build, process redesign, automation and/or platform modernization).
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

Preferred qualifications, skills, and capabilities:

  • Experience supporting fixed income SMA operational workflows (implementation/rebalancing support, restrictions management, transitions, and exception handling).
  • Experience standing up or scaling support for tax-aware/tax-managed SMA workflows (e.g., tax-loss harvesting, tax-aware rebalancing, transitions, restrictions).
  • Experience with global operating models, including partnership with teams in India.
  • Continuous improvement toolkit and metrics-driven operating discipline.
