Job description

Job Description
U. S. Steel is seeking a High Voltage Electrical Lineman for its Fairfield Tubular Steel Operations in Fairfield, Alabama. The High Voltage Electrical Lineman job requires a trained and experienced individual to continue our success as one of world's largest steel producers. This position performs electrical maintenance functions necessary to maintain our plant power supply.
Responsibilities:
  • MV Switchgear repair
  • MV and HV Switching in substations and sequence of Switching
  • Ability to exercise 3-part communication for switching
  • MV Breaker repairs, testing and troubleshooting
  • Hi-pot MV cabling per IEEE/NEC code and calculate acceptable readings
  • HV and MV transformers
  • HV and MV transmission lines and pole riggings
  • Reading of one line/single-line diagrams and explaining the symbols and their functions
  • Specific Gravity Battery Testing and Battery Maintenance
  • Electrical Safety around MV and HV equipment
  • Working around 115 KV all the way down to 120 volts.
  • Pole hardware and rigging
  • Running insulated bucket truck and Derrick digger pole truck.
  • Protection relays operation, ANSI fault code/identification, and troubleshooting of power distribution system
  • Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines at all times. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection
  • The position requires punctuality, consistent attendance and self direction for the success of the operations
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass assessment test(s)
  • Current Commercial Driver's License
  • Minimum of 3 years lineman experience
  • Journeyman Lineman card, or Lineman A or B classification
