Electrical Estimator

Highlights Electrical is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our Houston team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for commercial, industrial, municipal, and public-sector electrical projects.

We are looking for someone with actual electrical industry knowledge and experience who understands the work behind the numbers—not simply general estimating experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review electrical plans, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs
  • Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Prepare complete and competitive electrical bid proposals
  • Review and incorporate addenda, revisions, alternates, and clarifications
  • Identify scope requirements, exclusions, potential risks, and opportunities
  • Coordinate with project managers, vendors, suppliers, and management throughout the estimating process
  • Maintain organized bid documentation and estimating records
  • Assist with bid submissions and required supporting documentation
  • Participate in project turnover after award to ensure scope, pricing, assumptions, and project requirements are clearly communicated to the project team
  • Track bid results and assist with maintaining current material and labor pricing

Qualifications

  • Electrical industry experience is required
  • Experience estimating commercial, industrial, municipal, or similar electrical projects is strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Strong understanding of electrical materials, systems, installation methods, and labor requirements
  • Experience performing material and labor takeoffs
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, customers, and management
  • Proficiency with computers and standard business software
  • Electrical estimating software experience is preferred

Preferred Background

We welcome candidates whose electrical knowledge comes from estimating, project management, field experience, or a combination of these areas.

Experience with any of the following is especially valuable:

  • Commercial and industrial electrical work
  • Municipal, government, or other public-sector projects
  • Lighting and lighting control systems
  • Electrical service and distribution
  • Generator projects
  • Plan/spec and competitive bid work

  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications
