Job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | Sr. Program Manager | EPC | Birmingham, AL

A Southeast-based construction and manufacturing company is hiring a key Senior Program Leader to own full P&L responsibility and strategic C-suite client relationships across complex building programs. If you have 10+ years of complex project leadership at a respected AEC/EPC firm, a track record of running programs at scale, and you're energized by learning something genuinely new rather than doing the same thing you've always done, this is worth a conversation.

  • Anticipate $160K-$190K+, based on experience
  • Full benefits package: health coverage, 401(k), Equitable; full suite including dental, vision, FSA, PTO, short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Birmingham, Alabama (open to relocation); up to 25% travel to active program sites

OVERVIEW:

Program Leadership:

  • Own program P&L with explicit margin accountability across assigned programs — accountable for financial outcomes, not oversight only
  • Design, build, and right-size the program team; evaluate structure and capability gaps
  • Develop and maintain C-suite-level client relationships; represent the company at the highest levels of client organizations
  • Contribute to strategic pipeline decisions — input on which programs and clients the company pursues based on capacity, margin potential, and strategic fit
  • Take direct control of programs in serious jeopardy — financial, schedule, or client-relationship crises — and drive them back to stable operation
  • Establish program-wide standards for schedule, financial reporting, procurement, and stakeholder communication
  • Present and defend Business Case Reviews to executive leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Program Managers and Project Managers (4-12 depending on program size); accountable for their performance, retention, and growth

Field & Client Leadership:

  • Represent the company at senior client-facing milestones and executive-level events
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for C-suite client executives
  • Serve as the final escalation point for major disputes, claims, and client issues
  • Take direct field-level control of programs in crisis when senior intervention is required

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Data Analytics, or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience including demonstrated leadership of complex projects in construction (data centers, hospitals, high-rises, or comparable mission-critical/large-scale commercial programs)
  • Demonstrated P&L accountability for programs totaling $100M+ in actively managed contract revenue
  • Demonstrated C-suite-level client relationships during program delivery and crisis management
  • Proven ability to build, restructure, and right-size a program team
  • Strong financial acumen with explicit margin accountability
  • Advanced scheduling proficiency across multiple platforms: MS Project, Primavera P6, and Smartsheet
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency for program-level financial and operational analysis
  • Genuine drive to implement and leverage technology in program management workflows

Preferred — strong differentiators:

  • Experience leading data center, healthcare, or mission-critical programs
  • Master's degree (MBA, Construction Management, Data Analytics, or similar)
  • Relevant professional certification: PMP, ASHE CHC, LEED AP, or similar
  • Working experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable data/analytics tools
  • Experience directing ERP reporting strategy (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or comparable)
  • AI tool proficiency with demonstrated organizational adoption experience
  • Construction, design-build, or integrated delivery environment experience
  • Ability to interpret CAD, Revit, or SolidWorks models for design strategy discussions

KEYWORDS Senior Program Manager, Program Executive, Senior Project Manager, Program Manager, Construction Program Manager, Project Executive, P&L Accountability, C-Suite Client Relations, Business Case Review, Team Development, Complex Projects, Data Center Construction, Healthcare Construction, Mission Critical, Design-Build, Construction, MS Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Dynamics, ERP, PMP, LEED AP, Alabama, Birmingham
