Job Summary:
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship activities for Horizon Goodwill Industries. This position serves as the organization's senior accounting leader and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, timely preparation of financial statements, compliance with debt covenant requirements, adherence to internal spending policies, and support of the annual budgeting process.
Essential Functions:
1. Financial Operations Management
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger activity
2. Month-End & Year-End Close
- Lead and manage the monthly and annual financial close process, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records
3. Financial Reporting
- Prepare and oversee the production of monthly financial statements and internal reporting packages
4. Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Ensure proper management of A/P and A/R functions, including vendor payments, invoicing, collections, and cash application
5. Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls across all financial operations
6. Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee the effective use of accounting systems and financial tools
7. Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, including A/P, A/R, and general accounting roles
8. CFO Partnership
- Serve as the operational lead for finance, allowing the CFO to focus on strategic financial leadership
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
Minimum seven years of progressive accounting and financial management experience and three years of supervisory experience.
Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
Experience with federal grants, contracts, audits, IRS Form 990 preparation, retail, workforce development, social enterprise, government contracting, or human services organizations.
