Job description

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is seeking an Accounting Manager located at our park support center in Sandusky, Ohio. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the oversight of general ledger accounting entries for multiple properties and ensuring trial balances are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position follows the internal control processes, policies and procedures as developed by the Controller. Additionally, this role will be responsible for managing a team of five to six Staff Accountants and Supervisors.


This position will report to the Director of Accounting. The Accounting Manager will partner with other peers to create consistent work product under the direction of the Director of Accounting.

  • Responsible for review and posting of weekly and monthly accounting entries to be able to produce weekly / monthly park level trial balances.
  • Maintain compliance with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP.
  • Address internal and external audit requests for information as needed.
  • Maintain a strong culture of technical competence, personal accountability, and ethical behavior in all aspects of accounting work.
  • Manage staff accountants who will prepare weekly and monthly accounting entries, ensuring timely period closing schedules are being maintained.
  • Work with park operational staff to resolve day-to-day accounting issues that impact park operations. Collaborate with peer Accounting Managers to ensure both timely and accurate financial reporting and the timely resolution of day-to-day accounting issues that impact operations.
  • Use developed tools to complete weekly or monthly reconcilements.
  • Comply with specific financial regulatory requirements such as US GAAP and SOX controls.
  • Participate in hiring of new staff.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of technical competence, personal accountability, and ethical behavior in all aspects of accounting work.
  • Adhere to and enforce all Six Flags policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and will demonstrate commitment to Six Flags core values and cornerstones.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university, with CPA, CMA, MBA or similar designation preferred.
  • 5 years of combined public accounting, consulting, and industry related experience with minimum of 2 years of departmental leadership experience.
  • Understanding of park financial flows and systems used to produce financial statements, including ERP, revenue systems, and payroll strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills and able to work effectively independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, financial analysis skills, and time management skills.
  • Confidence to ask questions and get clarification, display a positive attitude, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the capability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective in an office or hybrid work environment.
  • Dependable, honest and exhibits integrity.

Must be able to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test and background check, which may include, but is not limited to credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy.
