Job description

Construction Field Laborer

Join our Housley Group team as a Field Laborer.  

  • We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Field Laborer to support our underground utility construction projects. This position plays a vital role in installing, maintaining, and repairing water, sewer, storm, and other underground utility lines. You'll work outdoors in a physically demanding, safety-conscious environment alongside a skilled team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation and repair of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain, etc.)

  • Excavate and backfill trenches using hand tools and powered equipment

  • Prepare job sites by cleaning and removing obstacles or hazards

  • Operate or assist with the operation of tampers, compactors, saws, and jackhammers

  • Spot and signal equipment operators to ensure safe and accurate trenching and pipe placement

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and assist with loading/unloading materials and tools

  • Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times

  • Support traffic control efforts around active job sites

Requirements
  • Previous experience in underground utility, civil construction, or general labor preferred

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, bend, squat, climb, and stand for extended periods

  • Comfortable working in trenches, confined spaces, and all weather conditions

  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed

  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Valid Driver's License required; CDL is a plus

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

Work Environment
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, mud, uneven terrain, and heavy machinery

  • Physically demanding tasks including trench work, pipe handling, and heavy lifting

  • Requires constant awareness of site hazards and moving equipment
