Primary Purpose The Recreation Center Technician serves as a customer service representative for the student recreation center, providing front desk and facility guidance in the absence of the facility director. Supports College leadership in developing departmental goals and objectives as part of the Institution's continuous improvement cycle, which includes participating in the college-wide accreditation process by performing departmental planning, assessment, and improvement to meet core theme objectives and contribute to mission fulfillment. There are two (2) vacant positions.

Description of Essential Functions Recreation Center Support (100% of Time) Oversee all activities of the Recreation Center, often in the absence of facility management staff (nights and/or weekends).
Open or close facility as needed (including any related opening/closing duties). Operate from facility front desk, regulating who enters facility, while regularly observing all other areas of the facility. Handle forms/money for facility registrations, rentals, and any other miscellaneous revenue.
Resolve conflicts/issues via appropriate means as necessary or directed. Oversee and provide training as necessary for student workers and federal work study staff. Keep work and service area in a safe, sanitary, and orderly manner.
Clean the equipment and facility as needed or instructed. Assist in the cleaning/maintenance of the climbing wall and climbing equipment. Check-out, inventory, and maintain equipment.
Assist in any necessary setup for classes, intramurals, and other activities (i.e., setting up volleyball nets) as needed or instructed. Serve as resource for information in response to inquiries from students, the public, and College personnel regarding classes, activities, procedures, and policies. Greet visitors and answer the Recreation Center telephone
Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED/equivalent. One (1) year of experience in a front-line environment with an emphasis on customer service, computer operations, and conflict resolution. Successful applicants for this position must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation: Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Commitment to being punctual and reliable. Knowledge and ability to utilize all of the tools and equipment of the position in a safe and responsible manner. Knowledge and ability to administer first aid in emergency situations.
Ability to work independently while exercising judgment during interactions with students, staff, and the public on campus during all hours of operation. Ability to work independently and to consistently follow administrative procedures and to explain procedures to those unfamiliar with them. Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use MS Word, working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processors, and similar office applications required.
Ability to effectively communicate in English with others both orally and in written form, which includes the ability to restate at various language levels, to simplify, and to use demonstrations which relate to previous knowledge and concrete experience. Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives, and abilities. Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations.
Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation. Ability to work early morning and/or late evening hours as needed.
