Fast food workers are employees who prepare and serve food and beverages at quick-service restaurants. Their duties typically include taking customer orders, operating cash registers, assembling food items, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a fast, friendly service experience. They may also handle basic food preparation, restock supplies, and assist with drive-thru orders. Fast food workers play a key role in providing efficient and consistent service to customers in a fast-paced environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fast food worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fast Food Worker, you need basic food preparation skills, the ability to follow safety and hygiene standards, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Job description

Production Cook / Kitchen Team Member Plant Power Fast Food (Escondido)
$20/hr to start + tips + free meals
We're Plant Power Fast Food, San Diego's original 100% plant-based fast food company. Since 2015 we've been proving that food good for people and the planet can also taste incredible. Our Escondido facility is primarily a commercial production kitchen: it's the Commissary where we make the large-batch recipes that supply our restaurants across California and Nevada. Attached to it is a small ghost kitchen where we prepare fresh food for guests through curbside pickup and delivery.
This is a production-focused role. If you take pride in making consistent, high-quality food at volume and like working fast without cutting corners, this is for you.
What you'd do (mostly production)
  • Make large-batch recipes for our commissary using specialized commercial equipment
  • Follow recipes precisely to hit consistent quality and yield across big batches
  • Portion, package, and label finished products for distribution
  • Keep storage organized using FIFO (first in, first out)
  • Maintain stock and proper pars

What you'd do (ghost kitchen)
  • Cook line items for guest orders: burgers, sandwiches, wraps
  • Make milkshakes and other drinks
  • Run curbside orders out to guests' vehicles
  • Keep orders accurate, allergen-aware, and out fast

What you bring
  • A San Diego County Food Handlers permit
  • A strong work ethic and dependability (showing up on time, every shift)
  • The ability to stay calm and decisive when it's busy
  • Commercial or production kitchen experience is a plus, but attitude and reliability matter most

The physical side (be ready for this)
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Prolonged standing, plus bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling
  • A fast-paced environment with exposure to hot and cold conditions and industrial cleaning products

What you get
  • $20/hr to start, plus tips
  • A free meal every shift
  • Medical (we cover 50% of the base/bronze plan); dental and vision also available
  • A consistent TuesdaySaturday schedule
  • A team that communicates with respect and has a good time while doing excellent work

Schedule: TuesdaySaturday, 10:30am7pm or 12:30pm9pm
