Horizon Farm Credit is actively seeking an Accounting Officer (Tax Advisor) to join our team. Qualified candidate may work in the Lewisburg or Towanda, PA branch locations. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Our ideal candidate is an eager-to-learn, detail-oriented, organized, and analytical tax professional with an enthusiasm to support the agricultural community. 

Position Description

Accounting Officers (Tax Advisors) will provide services to accounting, record, and income tax return customers with a high level of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. In addition, the position will be involved with promoting related Farm Credit services, aiding in business development efforts, and participating in public relations activities.  Accounting Officers (Tax Advisors) will operate under the general supervision of an Accounting Services Manager.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains and builds strong customer relationships, gaining a thorough understanding of their business and business goals. 
  • Serves as a trusted partner for customers, advising on sound accounting, financial management, and tax best practices.
  • Gathers complete and accurate financial data to prepare tax returns, financial reports, records and payroll services. 
  • Understands federal and state tax regulations, staying up to date on changes.
  • Grows portfolio in assigned territory to achieve billable hour and revenue goals.
  • Collaborates with Farm Credit teammates to develop new business, as well as expanding the relationships of existing customers. 
  • Actively participates in educational programs for customers and prospects. 
  • Participates in both departmental and regional team meetings, providing insight on any pertinent updates or information that helps the team better service customers.  
  • Must obtain and maintain Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

Education & Certifications

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) certifications preferred. 

Experience

  • Generally, two or more years of experience in tax preparation, with an understanding of farm and business taxes preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of farm operations and accounting principles is a plus. 
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or CenterPoint accounting software is preferred.

  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and efficiently, with a high degree of accuracy to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to travel within assigned territory as required, including meeting with customers, prospects, and other team members.
  • Demonstrates analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.

Salary Range: $52,000 - $90,000, Depending on previous experience. Opportunity to earn additional annual bonus incentive.
