This is your opportunity to enjoy working with a dynamic and highly professional group of staff in a small, state-of-the-art, inpatient psychiatric treatment facility that provides excellent care for adults with a variety of behavioral health conditions. With only 16 beds, the Community Behavioral Health Hospital (CBHH) in Bemidji offers an array of services in a community-based setting. Our mental health treatment and programming utilize a person-centered framework. We routinely involve the patient, their family and multiple community resources in treatment planning and implementation. The interdisciplinary treatment team is robust, and includes a psychiatrist, nurses, a psychologist, social workers, and rehabilitation therapists. This facility belongs to a network of six small behavioral health hospitals located throughout the state, giving you access to consult and collaborate with colleagues. With an average length of stay of 30 days, you'll help patients to transition their care to a substantial system of outpatient services in the area.

In this role, you will function as the primary care practitioner delivering comprehensive care for individuals with acute to chronic and severe mental illness in collaboration with other health care professionals. This role serves as the on-site attending medical clinician and a key member of the treatment team. Hospitalist experience is not required, acutely ill patients requiring medical hospitalization are transferred out.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct advanced practice nursing care for primary care issues

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute or chronic health issues

  • Conduct work in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers

  • Prescribe medications and monitor and manage for side effects

  • Serve on medical, nursing, and facility committees

  • Provide health education to patients and clients

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a program of study designed to prepare the individual for advanced practice as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist in family practice or internal medicine

  • Certification with a national professional nursing organization as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Minnesota

  • Authorization from the Minnesota Board of Nursing to prescribe drugs and therapeutic devices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with inpatient psychiatric patients

  • Previous APRN experience
