Job description

Seeking an underwriter for our PO finance and recourse factoring divisions where we provide flexible financing solutions to small and mid-sized businesses. Our facilities close working capital gaps quickly and efficiently through our diligence process and relationship-focused service.

This position plays a key role in supporting credit decisions within a fast-paced lending environment. Focuses on evaluating transactions, assessing transaction-level risk, and analyzing borrower and buyer creditworthiness. Unlike traditional bank underwriting, this role requires comfort with dynamic risk profiles, shorter decision timelines, and structured deals tailored to growth-stage businesses.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in lending, specialty finance, or commercial credit.

Key responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze applications and supporting documentation.
  • Verify purchase orders, supplier contracts, and buyer creditworthiness
  • Conduct financial analysis including review of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Perform risk assessments and identify potential credit, operational, and fraud risks
  • Assist in preparing underwriting reports and credit memos
  • Support senior underwriters in structuring finance deals within company risk policies
  • Communicate with clients, brokers, and referral sources to obtain required information
  • Maintain accurate underwriting files and documentation, and update Salesforce
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Portfolio teams to facilitate fast funding decisions
  • Assists with legal documentation, due diligence, and client onboarding
  • Monitor approved deals for performance and flag early warning signs
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and client-facing activities as needed (light travel required)
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field
  • 5-10 years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, trade finance, or banking
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and credit risk assessment
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • High attention to detail, organizational ability and prioritizing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in asset-based lending, factoring, PO finance, or working capital finance
  • Familiarity with transaction-based underwriting
  • Understanding of supply chain finance structures
What Makes This Role Different from a Bank:
  • Faster decision cycles
  • Deal-level underwriting rather than solely balance-sheet lending
  • Greater flexibility in structuring transactions
