Job description

Chief Engineer

Location: Washington, DC
Pay: $80,000–$100,000 annually (based on experience) + Up to 10% Annual Bonus

We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to join our team and partner with the Property Manager in the planning, coordination, and management of all mechanical operations, maintenance, energy management programs, and employee development initiatives for a 300,000-square-foot LEED Gold commercial facility.

Position Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Property Manager in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the property.
  • Assist in fulfilling all responsibilities required under the management contract and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
  • Perform work across all building trades as directed by the Property Manager.
  • Supervise, schedule, plan, and assign work for maintenance personnel responsible for electrical, mechanical, structural, and non-structural building systems.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence assessments, reporting conditions that may impact building operations.
  • Respond to building emergencies and work with the engineering team to ensure effective emergency response. This position participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Prepare and submit management summary reports outlining work completed, building conditions, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety policies while promoting a clean and safe work environment.
  • Identify safety hazards and recommend solutions to eliminate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable District, County, and City codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Property Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of facilities operations and maintenance experience within the past 10 years.
  • At least 5 years supervising maintenance technicians maintaining similar commercial building systems.
  • Minimum 3 years of documented experience operating a DDC (Direct Digital Control) system.
  • HVAC Certification required.
  • 3rd Class Engineer's License issued by the District of Columbia required.
  • LEED Certification is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours calls and emails.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and proactive.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with team members, tenants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, utility, maintenance, repair, and cleaning systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational and client needs.
