Job Description:
The University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning's mission is to improve the quality of teaching, learning, and childcare. We research, develop, and scale educational innovations for adults and children that put all learners on trajectories for lifelong success. Specifically, the Center targets kindergarten readiness, 3rd grade reading proficiency, and algebra proficiency as critical milestones in children's educational trajectory that are predictive of success in school and life. The Center works at the nexus of research, practice, and policy to develop sustainable systems that leverage educational technologies and improve the implementation of research-based practices. Responsibilities:
Literacy Content Development
  • Develop content for teacher resources in partnership with various teams (e.g., Literacy Content, Implementation, Technical Assistance).
  • Design face-to-face learning experiences for teachers.
  • Develop slide decks, agendas, and materials for synchronous learning experiences for teachers.
  • Develop book-specific teacher reading guides.
  • Consult disaggregated data to identify appropriate literacy level, language access, and culturally attuned products and implementation.
  • Work with their Manager to connect with educators to determine the needs and inform the design of the project and subsequent products and services.
  • Lead the creation of institute materials. This includes developing and creating learning activities, assisting in the selection of materials, infusing adult learning strategies within materials, and providing the evidence base that supports the selection of materials, programs, and strategies.

Content Review
  • Author high-quality content that supports current evidence-based research.
  • Author activities for the content that are developmentally appropriate and ensure that content follows the outlined templates.
  • Assist in locating and producing appropriate video resources for online content.
  • Review content and materials for improvements, as necessary.
  • Adhere to established schedules and deadlines related to state initiatives.

Logistical Support
  • Manage ongoing curation of the book list to ensure alignment with grade level expectations, genres, diversity, and interest areas.
  • Design and disseminate materials for marketing, recruitment and project communications in collaboration with other Lastinger teams.
  • Troubleshoot challenges and address them as they arise; coordinate with other project staff providing implementation support to ensure consistency and effective communication structures.

Collaboration
  • Attend meetings and focus groups, inform content development needs and priorities.
  • Maintain daily communication with the New Worlds Professional Learning team.

Other Duties as Assigned
Expected Salary:
$66,000-$73,000
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience.
Preferred:
  • Reading Endorsement
  • Experience in early childhood language, and literacy or K-12 literacy teaching/professional development
  • Experience in content development and/or instructional design
  • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills
