Job description

Description
You must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future. We will not sponsor employment visas. Candidates who will require future sponsorship, including candidates on CPT/OPT/STEMOPT who will require future sponsorship, are not eligible to apply.
At Liberty, you'll thrive in a hybrid setting that fosters in-person collaboration, innovation and growth. This approach optimizes both remote and in-person interactions, enabling you to connect and ideate with your team and deepen valuable relationships across the company, while still enjoying the flexibility of remote work for focused tasks and projects. This position follows a hybrid work model (2 days onsite) and is open to candidates located in Portsmouth, NH; Boston, MA; Plano, TX; Indianapolis, IN; and Columbus, OH.
Provides senior-level engineering leadership and hands-on software development for the applications that automate, deploy, administer and monitor Liberty Mutual's global network fabric. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, networking and software engineering: while grounded in networking fundamentals, it is primarily a senior software and application development and data management role in support of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) efforts.
The Solutions Engineer is a principal contributor to the Network Automation and Rapid Response System (NARRS) - the internally hosted platform leveraged by multiple internal networking teams to deploy and administer Dell SONiC, Cisco ACI, and Arista network components across the global network landscape. NARRS delivers administrative and deployment capabilities along with health and error metrics/observability. Working within Agile delivery teams, the role is responsible for designing, advancing, enhancing and supporting these applications - ensuring they are secure, reliable and observable because they support core network fabric environments. As a senior engineer, this individual sets the technical bar for code quality, security, and automation across the team.
1. Acts as a senior/lead solution engineer and technical lead for the design, development, enhancement and support of the internally hosted network deployment and administration applications, aligning implementation with technical architecture, customer business plans and long-term strategy.
2. Designs and builds full-stack applications and services using Python, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, React and Kubernetes, applying infrastructure-as-code practices to automate the deployment, administration and lifecycle management of network components.
3. Works within Agile methodologies as part of cross-functional delivery teams - participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews and retrospectives - and drives continuous improvement in team velocity and product/team performance.
4. Manages source control, branching, and CI/CD workflows in GitHub, championing automated build, test, deployment and management processes to increase delivery speed, consistency and reliability.
5. Performs security reviews and peer code reviews of planned code deployments, enforcing engineering standards, secure coding practices, and maintainability before changes are promoted to network fabric environments.
6. Incorporates AI fundamentals - including AI-assisted development tooling and applied machine learning / intelligent automation - to advance automation, anomaly detection, and operational efficiency within the applications.
7. Develops and enhances open network / open-source deployment and administration capabilities supporting Dell SONiC, Cisco ACI and Arista environments across the global network.
8. Builds and maintains observability into the applications (performance, health and error metrics, logging, telemetry, alerting) so networking teams have clear, actionable visibility into deployment status and fabric health.
9. Embeds strong network and application security fundamentals into the software development lifecycle, recognizing that these applications support core network fabric environments; manages troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure/application compatibility issues and participates in incident management events with consultative recommendations on viable resolutions.
10. Fosters strong team collaboration and cross-functional team building across the multiple internal networking teams that leverage these applications; mentors staff to develop software and infrastructure engineering capabilities and shares engineering knowledge across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or business discipline or equivalent experience; technical Master's degree preferred. Generally, a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
• Strong senior-level software engineering skills with demonstrated proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, React and Kubernetes; solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, containerization and data management.
• Hands-on experience with GitHub for source control, pull-request workflows, and automated build/test/deployment pipelines; proven track record performing security and peer code reviews of planned deployments.
• Working knowledge of AI fundamentals and their practical application to automation, developer productivity, and operational insight.
• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and network fabric technologies, with hands-on exposure to open network / open-source platforms (e.g., Dell SONiC), Cisco ACI and Arista.
• Demonstrated experience building observability (metrics, logging, telemetry, alerting) and applying strong network / application security practices.
• In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies; knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies, cloud-based platforms and development tools; in-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs.
• Highly developed negotiation, consensus-building and influencing skills; facilitation and adaptability to respond to change quickly. Highly developed oral and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization and across cross-functional teams.
