Job description

SUMMARY

The Thermoplastics Extrusion Engineer supports process improvements, scrap reduction, sustaining engineering, capital equipment specification, qualification, and technical support for all Thermoplastic Extrusion manufacturing processes such as fluoropolymer extrusion and silicone extrusion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting/ problem resolution to ensure cost, quality, delivery, and safety targets are met.
  • Responsible for evaluating Scrap/Waste for assigned manufacturing processes and developing and executing plans for waste reduction.
  • Ensures Standard Work for Manufacturing and supporting processes are in place to give consistent direction to production and minimize opportunities for safety, quality, or downtime incidents.
  • > 70% of time spent in production areas supporting extrusion operations. 
  • Participates/leads continuous improvement projects related to extrusion manufacturing processes.
  • Performs engineering analysis, DOEs, and trials to improve and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Participates/Leads in Capital Equipment planning/procurement/design/Installation/Qualification (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ)
  • Coordinates with Maintenance, EHS, and operations to ensure Safety measures related to the area are compliant and effective.
  • Supports Design Engineering with Process, Tooling, and Sustaining engineering extrusion activities.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input for New Product Development (NPD) initiatives, ensuring extrusion processes are capable, repeatable, and cost-effective
  • Support and guide DFM principles for extrusion tooling, materials, and process parameters, including critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics.
  • Develop, maintain, and standardize extrusion parts lists, tooling configurations, and equipment documentation to ensure consistency and readiness
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and the company.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required
  • A minimum of 2-5 years’ engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally aerospace or similar
  • Experience working with extrusion, particularly fluoropolymer, highly desirable
  • Experience or knowledge of LSS tools preferred;
  • Utilizes formal problem-solving methodologies (RCA, PDCA, 8D, DMAIC, etc.)
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or cable assembly industries favored.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Conversational in any other language is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

As part of their job duties, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to reach, stretch, push, pull, crouch, stoop, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. This role requires specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT

ACIT is a clean facility, housing different machinery, equipment, processes, and chemicals which produce potential hazards in the work environment such as ergonomic, chemical, machine point of operation, and powered industrial vehicle traffic. These hazards are controlled through means of engineering controls, such as machine guarding, and administrative controls, such as safety policies and programs. In certain areas of the facility, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hand protection.
