This position reports to:
Production Supervisor
Summary: Sets up and operates Extrusion machines/manufacturing processes under moderate supervision/monitoring. Performs other assembly and fabrication operations as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sets up and operates Extrusion machines/manufacturing processes. Has specialized manufacturing/quality knowledge. Trained to make press and tooling adjustments at floor management direction. Is familiar with and uses dispatch list at floor management direction. Flexible, and works effectively as a member of a work team. Actively involved in cross-training and assists co-workers in cross-training.
Must meet or exceed company requirements for safety. Must successfully complete all required safety/skills training. Reads work instructions to determine job specifications, machine adjustments, and material requirements. The operator is responsible for producing a quality product using the quality plans and work instructions. Documents work completed using the manufacturing system. Makes intermediate adjustments to Extrusion equipment and tooling to adhere to established specifications. Awareness of procedures to use around hazardous materials. Recognizes HAZMAT conditions and alerts appropriate personnel. Uses dial calipers, snap gauges or micrometers. Monitors work to ensure that machine /equipment is not malfunctioning. Assists with minor repairs. Reports major malfunctions in a timely manner to appropriate personnel. Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished work pieces. Ability to work overtime as scheduled. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Manual dexterity and mechanically inclined. Ability to apply shop math skills. Capable of training/monitoring co-workers. Able to follow quality plans and work instructions. Able to use common tools of machine operations.
Education and/or Experience:
High school graduate/GED preferred but not required. Minimum of six (6) months related experience in machine set-up/operation and/or equivalent training is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Reads and interprets documents like safety rules and instructions.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to follow written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving more concrete variables.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, communicate and occasionally to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift up to 35 pounds. Visual abilities required may include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, works in outside air weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The work may involve toxic and/or non-toxic fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, vibration and heat. The noise level in the work environment may frequently be loud and hearing protection may be required based on the work area and noise level.
