Job description

Our client, a leading international freight forwarder, is seeking a Senior Air Export Specialist to join their team in Burlingame, California. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced air freight professional looking to take on a leadership role while remaining hands-on in daily export operations.


The Senior Air Export Specialist will be responsible for managing complex international air export shipments from origin through final departure, ensuring exceptional customer service, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. In addition to handling key customer accounts, this individual will serve as a subject matter expert, supporting junior team members and assisting with process improvements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end coordination of international air export shipments.
  • Prepare and review export documentation, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, airline regulations, and international trade standards.
  • Coordinate with airlines, overseas agents, trucking companies, warehouses, and customers to ensure timely movement of freight.
  • Monitor shipment milestones, proactively communicate updates, and resolve service issues before they impact customers.
  • Handle complex shipments requiring legalization, letters of credit, original bills of lading, and other specialized documentation.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure data integrity within the company's operating system.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to customer inquiries and resolving operational challenges.
  • Support and mentor junior Air Export Coordinators by sharing best practices and assisting with training.
  • Work closely with sales and customer service teams to ensure customer expectations are consistently exceeded.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with TSA, IATA, FAA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of air export operations experience with an international freight forwarder.
  • Strong knowledge of international air freight documentation, export compliance, and airline procedures.
  • Experience handling complex shipments, including letters of credit, legalization, and original shipping documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priority shipments.
  • Strong communication and customer relationship management skills.
  • Experience using CargoWise or a similar freight forwarding operating system is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and serve as a senior operational resource.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced logistics environment.
