Job description

LHH is actively seeking an entry level Import Expeditor for one of our top clients in in Newport News! This will be a long term contract opportunity potential for extension and will report onsite to their office in Newport News.
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Import Expeditor to support our Supply Chain team by monitoring and expediting international purchase orders from origin through final delivery. This role is responsible for maintaining shipment visibility, identifying potential delays, and coordinating with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely product delivery.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, communicates effectively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where managing multiple shipments and priorities is essential.
Key Responsibilities
  • Track imported purchase orders from supplier shipment through final delivery.
  • Monitor critical transit milestones, including factory ship dates, port departures, customs clearance, and domestic transportation.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to obtain status updates and resolve shipment issues.
  • Identify late or at-risk shipments and escalate concerns to buyers and supply chain leadership as needed.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records, updates, and notes within ERP and tracking systems.
  • Review shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading, for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support import compliance efforts by ensuring all required documentation is received and properly routed.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Inventory, Logistics, Receiving, and Accounts Payable teams to support receiving and payment processes.
  • Provide timely shipment updates and maintain organized records to support supply chain visibility.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, import operations, expediting, or a related field (internship or temporary experience considered).
  • Basic knowledge of international shipping and import processes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting imported products via ocean and/or air freight.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, customs clearance procedures, and freight documentation.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and shipment tracking platforms.
  • Previous interaction with freight forwarders, customs brokers, or international suppliers.
Work Environment
  • Office or hybrid work environment.
  • Temporary assignment with the potential for extension based on business needs.
  • Standard business hours with occasional flexibility required during peak shipping periods.
Pay Details: $23.00 to $26.00 per year
