Job description

We are currently seeking a talented individual to become a Racing Outrider. An individual could be successful if they possess the following.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Racing Outrider is responsible for ensuring the safety of all horse racing participants (both human and equine) during training and live racing. They also help riders who are having trouble with difficult horses, particularly when a horse tries to run away with its rider.

  • Basic rule enforcement
  • Leading animals to starting gates
  • Chasing down run aways
  • Chasing down any early starters
  • Sounding the alarm to notify rider injury
  • Leading animals for morning exercise
  • Opening & closing the track at the beginning & end of the day
  • Coordinating with other track personnel
  • Overseeing morning exercise routines & maintaining order
  • Punctual attendance required
  • Ability to work required overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must be able to read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Ability to stand for periods of time and work in inclement weather when necessary
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • 1 year related experience and/or training; or combination.
  • Must be an experienced rider
  • Must be able to catch loose or troubled horses while maintaining control of their horse
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Must qualify for an Outriders licensed with Racing Commission
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and must have the ability to stand, climb, push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
