Job description

Works under the supervision of the charge nurse and performs routine resident care duties and procedures. Observes and reports changes in resident’s condition to the charge nurse, handles and treats residents in a manner conductive to their safety and comfort, adheres to instructions issued by the nurse and to established routine, and performs duties in accordance with established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized standards. Essential Duties:

  • Assist with resident assessment and care planning: check and record vital signs, measure height and weight, measure intake and output, collect specimens. Observe resident response to care provided.
  • Assist residents with meeting nutrition and elimination needs: check and pass food trays, assist with eating meals, provide fresh drinking water and nourishments and document accordingly, assist with using the bathroom, bed pans, urinals and commodes, assist with colostomy care, empty urine collection bags. Observe feces and urine, monitor intake and output and document.
  • Assist residents with mobility: turn and position residents, transfer residents to chair/bed, provide range of motion exercise, assist with ambulation. Use appropriate gait belts, equipment, body mechanics per resident care plan.
  • Assist residents with personal hygiene and grooming: bathe residents, provide oral hygiene, shave residents, provide nail and hair care, provide denture care, assist with dressing and undressing, provide peri-care, assist with incontinent product.
  • Assist residents with comfort and anxiety relief: protect resident privacy and maintain confidentiality, keep call light within resident reach, answer call light promptly, provide orientation to room, unit or facility and to other visitors and residents, assist with communication, protect personal possessions, provide diversional activities, give backrubs, prepare hot and cold applications.
  • Assist residents in promoting safety and environmental cleanliness: make beds, clean and care for equipment, carry out isolation precautions, practice standard precautions, practice medical asepsis and infection control, observe oxygen precautions.
  • Assist residents with unit management and efficiency: admit, transfer, and discharge residents, transport residents, take specimen to lab, assist with special procedures, telephone answering, documentation and assist in unit record-keeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Must be in good physical and mental condition. Constant standing and walking during work periods. Turning, stooping, bending, stretching, pulling, lifting, moving equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Nurse Assistant Certification upon hire or within required time frame.
  • Compassion for the elderly at all times.
  • Practice of good personal hygiene and professional appearance.
