Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver individualized exercise programs tailored to clients affected by breast cancer, including prehabilitation, active treatment, and post-treatment phases
  • Safely modify workouts to account for surgery (e.g., mastectomy, lumpectomy), reconstruction, lymphedema risk, fatigue, neuropathy, and range-of-motion limitations
  • Monitor client progress, symptoms, and tolerance to exercise, adjusting programs as needed
  • Educate clients on safe movement, posture, strength training, and recovery strategies
  • Maintain clear documentation of assessments, programs, and progress notes
  • Collaborate with oncologists, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers when appropriate
  • Provide emotional support and foster a supportive, inclusive, and empowering training environment
  • Stay current with research and best practices in cancer exercise science

Qualifications
Required:

  • Certified Personal Trainer (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent)
  • Specialized certification or formal training in cancer exercise or breast cancer rehabilitation (e.g., ACSM Cancer Exercise Trainer, Cancer Exercise Specialist, Pink Ribbon Program, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and contraindications related to breast cancer
  • CPR/AED certification

Preferred:

  • Experience working directly with breast cancer survivors or oncology populations
  • Background in corrective exercise, rehabilitation, or medical fitness
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathetic, patient-centered approach to coaching
  • Upbeat and positive
  • Punctuality and reliability is a must 
  • High School diploma/GED equivalent required
