The YMCA of the Black Hills is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Group Exercise Coordinator to lead and grow our group fitness programming. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about health and wellness, enjoys working with people, and thrives in a collaborative, community-focused environment.

As the Group Exercise Coordinator, you'll help create engaging wellness experiences while supporting a team of instructors dedicated to making every class welcoming, safe, and inspiring.

What You'll DoProgram Leadership & Fitness Experience
  • Coordinate and oversee group exercise programming and class quality
  • Lead safe, engaging, and motivating fitness classes for a variety of skill levels
  • Support YMCA-approved class formats including Les Mills, MOSSA, and other wellness programs
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming fitness spaces
  • Ensure equipment is used safely and maintained properly
Team Support & Staff Development
  • Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and support group exercise instructors
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and ongoing mentorship to instructors
  • Ensure staff maintain required certifications and YMCA training standards
  • Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
Member Engagement & Customer Service
  • Create inclusive and encouraging class environments
  • Build strong relationships with members and participants
  • Promote YMCA programs and wellness opportunities
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with professionalism and compassion
Safety & Administration
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow YMCA safety procedures
  • Conduct safety checks of fitness areas and equipment
  • Maintain first aid supplies and complete incident documentation when needed
  • Track attendance, maintain records, and assist with program reporting and budgeting
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Passion for health, wellness, and community impact
  • Ability to safely demonstrate exercises and assist participants
  • Ability to lift and move fitness equipment as needed
  • YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification required within 6 months of hire
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Previous fitness instruction or wellness leadership experience preferred
