Job description

Intellectual Property Attorney – Patents

Our client is a premier IP boutique headquartered in San Diego with a deep life sciences and technology patent prosecution and counseling practice. Their client roster includes leading biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical innovators, medical device manufacturers, and university technology transfer offices across Southern California and the nation.

As IP Attorney – Patents you will manage a portfolio of U.S. and PCT patent prosecution matters, draft claims and specifications for novel biologics, small molecule therapeutics, diagnostic platforms, and medical devices, respond to USPTO office actions, advise clients on freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, and support patent portfolio strategy discussions at the executive level.

Requirements
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school; USPTO registration required
  • Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related discipline required
  • 4+ years of patent prosecution experience with a focus on life sciences technologies
  • Experience with PCT prosecution and international patent strategy preferred
  • Strong technical writing ability and comfort explaining complex scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences
