Job description

BMG is a thermoforming packaging/automation solutions leader focused on a customer-centric approach to designing and building capital equipment machinery, tooling systems, and packaging automation solutions. We are a global organization representing the world’s most extensive thermoforming portfolio in the following industries: automotive, medical, electronics, horticulture, food, and process automation.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on IT Director at our corporate office in Beaverton, MI to lead our technology strategy, operations, and business systems within our manufacturing environment. Reporting to the CFO, this role serves as the head of IT and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of information technology, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, ERP systems, project management, and user support while ensuring technology solutions align with business objectives and operational excellence.

This position provides leadership for a small internal IT team and oversees the performance of external managed service providers, consultants, and technology vendors. The IT Director is responsible for developing team capabilities, establishing priorities, fostering collaboration, and ensuring internal and external resources deliver high-quality, responsive IT services that support the business.

The ideal candidate is a proven IT leader with significant experience supporting manufacturing operations and serving as the primary owner of an Epicor ERP environment. They will have a strong background leading technical teams, managing enterprise technology projects, directing cross-functional initiatives, and partnering with business leaders to improve processes, increase efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as the primary owner and strategic leader of the Epicor ERP system, including administration, optimization, upgrades, integrations, reporting, and user support.
  2. Lead, coach, develop, and manage a small internal IT team by setting priorities, providing mentorship, conducting performance management, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  3. Manage the performance and relationships of external managed service providers, consultants, technology vendors, and implementation partners to ensure service levels, project deliverables, and business expectations are achieved.
  4. Oversee and participate in Quickbase application development.
  5. Maintain expert-level knowledge of all business-critical software applications and systems.
  6. Oversee advanced technical support and complex troubleshooting of desktop operating systems and end-user technologies.
  7. Evaluate, recommend, procure, implement, configure, test, document, upgrade, and support software applications throughout their lifecycle in the production environment.
  8. Direct the IT service management process, including incident tracking, issue prioritization, escalation management, resolution, and help desk operations.
  9. Maintain knowledge of network and hardware infrastructure, including switches, routers, storage systems, and fiber channel technologies.
  10. Lead the development, testing, and continuous improvement of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  11. Ensure a secure and effective internal control environment that protects company systems, data, and assets.
  12. Develop, maintain, and update IT policies, procedures, technical documentation, reports, and business communications.
  13. Monitor, analyze, and report key IT operational, performance, and service metrics.
  14. Present technical information effectively to executives, managers, employees, vendors, customers, and other stakeholders.
  15. Coordinate technology training initiatives and promote effective utilization of business systems and technology resources across the organization.
  16. Assist in the development, management, and monitoring of the annual IT operating and capital budgets.
  17. Limited travel to other plant locations is required.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field; equivalent 10+ years’ experience considered.
  2. 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including demonstrated success leading, mentoring, developing, and managing technical teams within a manufacturing environment..
  3. Proven people leadership skills with experience building high-performing teams, coaching employees, managing performance, delegating work effectively, and leading through change.
  4. Demonstrated experience managing third-party IT service providers, consultants, and vendors, including establishing priorities, monitoring service levels, and ensuring accountability for results.
  5. Hands-on experience supporting, implementing, optimizing, and administering an enterprise ERP solution, including Epicor ERP in a manufacturing organization, with experience maintaining relational databases.
  6. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new software systems, including relational databases, interfaces, integrations, migrations, upgrades, and customizations.
  7. Strong knowledge of software licensing and maintenance.
  8. Strong knowledge of application security, network security, and firewall management.
  9. Understanding of manufacturing business processes and the ability to partner with business leaders to develop technology solutions that support operational objectives.
  10. Project management experience required.
  11. Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  12. A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S permanent residency (green card) process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated experience in learning and mastering new software systems regularly, including relational databases, integrations, migration, upgrades, customization. Specific experiences will include: SQL, Oracle, MySQL; Apache and or IIS; Windows Server; Backup and recovery technologies; Server Virtualization,
  2. Experience in Windows Server, Linux, VMware or other Virtual Technologies, storage preferred.
  3. Knowledge of Quickbase or other low code/no code database systems is helpful
  4. Knowledge in various hardware platforms and debugging techniques a plus.

ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
