Position Summary:
An Excavator Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to perform tasks such as digging, grading, trenching, and moving earth or materials on construction sites.
Responsibilities:
  • Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value - Safety, first in everything we do.
  • Responsible for safe and technically proficient operation of equipment assigned.
  • Complete equipment condition reports and daily checklists of tasks through the Middlesex Application.
  • Clean the machines daily, including sweeping cabs, removing trash, and lubricating doors and windows bi-weekly.
  • Understand and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures. Be aware of utility locations within the work zone.
  • Be responsible for your own safety and those working nearby.
  • Inform your Superintendent or Foreman daily about equipment fuel status to ensure proper scheduling for refueling.
  • Communicate equipment supply needs, such as grease, oil, rags, cleaning supplies, or the necessity for steam cleaning.
  • Perform beginning and end-of-shift equipment inspections.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for grade pulling, trench excavation, and loading/unloading excavators from transport trucks.
  • Utilize lifting devices, such as cables, chains, straps, and demonstrate the ability to lift and set various pipes, headwalls, and structures.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate.
  • 3-5 years of operator experience in heavy/civil construction.
  • OSHA 10 Certified.
  • Valid Driver License.

Necessary Attributes:
  • Must possess the ability to adapt to different personalities and management styles.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and integrity-oriented with strong professional work ethics.
  • Capability to identify and discuss all safety interlocks, alarms, and shutdowns on machinery.
  • Proficiency in excavating to grade using both GPS and grade stakes.
  • Ability to control, position, and load trucks efficiently.
  • Demonstrate lifting, setting, and securing procedures for various materials and structures, including pipes (DIP, C-900, RCP, ERCP, CMP, SDR, ADS), headwalls, and structural components.
  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail while maintaining professionalism.
