Description Assists in the development, management, and implementation of the Parks & Recreation Department's programs and events, including youth programs and special events. Also assists in planning and operating the Aquatic Center and Summer Camp, with direction from the Events/Program Supervisor, including planning, organizing, and staffing programs and special events. Examples of Duties Assists the Recreation Program Supervisor in planning, organizing, supervising, evaluating, and implementing special programs and events that offer a safe and positive social and recreational interaction for all members of the Oxford area.
Assist with implementing the department marketing plan, including preparation and distribution of activity guides and routine school visits. Maintain accurate records of attendance for special events and programs. Recruit, interview, train, and supervise youth and adult volunteers for special programs and events.
Supervise, train, and assist with evaluations of seasonal employees. Purchase and organize supplies for all special events and programs. Attend various community and organizational meetings.
Assist community organizations with events and programs as assigned. Assist in facility upgrades and park improvement projects as needed. Assist in the seasonal and summer camp operations as needed.
Maintain and implement Emergency Action Plans, and maintain accurate incident and accident reports and procedures. Provide excellent customer service skills and serve as a role model for all segments of the community. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications OCCUPATIONAL / TECHNICAL SKILL SET Knowledge of principles, practices and theories of recreation program development and coordination. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
Knowledge of all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job. COMMUNICATIONS SKILL SET Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
Ability to speak effectively before groups and to respond to questions. Ability to develop, write, and edit publications. Ability to stimulate interest in and appreciation of recreation activities.
ADMINISTRATIVE SKILL SET Ability to plan, organize, assign, direct, and evaluate work of staff. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction. Ability to define programs, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
COGNITIVE SKILL SET Ability to perform standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals. Ability to apply logical thinking to solve practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to demonstrate initiative and independent judgment.
Knowledge of basic budgetary principles and practices. INTERPERSONAL SKILL SET Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various individuals or groups of all ages. Ability to use tact and discretion.
LEADERSHIP SKILL SET Ability to select and motivate staff and provide for their professional development. Ability to instruct, train, and direct seasonal or part-time staff. Knowledge of administration and supervision of staff and activities.
Supplemental Information Incumbent must sit, see, use hands, reach with hands and arms, speak, hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of spending long periods of time on his/her feet. Work is performed in a varying environment, depending on the weather and season; this includes a mixture of office, classroom, in the community and outdoor work.
