Event Risk information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Event Risk Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Event Risk Manager, you need expertise in risk assessment, crisis management, and event planning, often supported by a degree in risk management or a related field. Familiarity with risk analysis software, incident management systems, and relevant certifications such as Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) is highly valuable. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills help you coordinate effectively under pressure and ensure stakeholder confidence. These skills are crucial for proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing risks to ensure safe and successful events.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Event Risk roles, and how can they be managed effectively?

Professionals in Event Risk roles often face challenges such as rapidly changing circumstances, unexpected incidents, and ensuring all stakeholders are adequately informed and prepared. Managing these challenges requires strong communication, thorough risk assessments, and contingency planning. Collaborating closely with event planners, security teams, and vendors is essential to anticipate potential issues and implement effective mitigation strategies. Continuous monitoring during events and conducting post-event reviews also help improve future risk management practices.

What are event risk professionals?

Event risk professionals are specialists who identify, assess, and manage potential risks associated with events, such as conferences, festivals, or corporate gatherings. Their role includes analyzing possible threats—like safety hazards, financial losses, or reputational damage—and developing strategies to mitigate these risks. They work closely with event planners, security teams, and insurance providers to ensure that events run smoothly and safely. By proactively addressing potential issues, event risk professionals help protect attendees, organizers, and stakeholders from unforeseen problems.

Job description

The Opportunity
Adobe is hiring a Director of Event Security to lead security strategy, planning, and implementation for all corporate events worldwide! This includes product launches, developer conferences, executive summits, and employee gatherings. You will ensure that every event offers a secure and seamless experience for attendees, executives, employees, and partners. The role bridges physical security, executive protection, crisis management, and collaboration across departments. You will convert complex and evolving threats into scalable, practical security programs that protect our people, brand, and intellectual property globally. You will guide a high-performing event security team while collaborating closely with Events, Marketing, Legal, Facilities, IT, and senior leadership to embed security throughout event planning and delivery. As the foremost expert in event security at the company, you will set the standard for event protection-monitoring industry leaders, adopting new technologies, and continuously enhancing our approach!
What you'll Do
  • Lead and continue to build the global event security program, including strategy, policies, standards, and playbooks across regions and event types.
  • Assess event risk, considering geopolitical context, venue conditions, crowd dynamics, and reputational risk.
  • Plan and oversee security for corporate events, including site surveys, access control, credentialing, emergency response plans, and communications.
  • Oversee on-site security operations, working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver safe, well-executed events.
  • Coordinate executive protection needs with the Protective Operations team for high-profile events and keynotes.
  • Develop and maintain event-specific incident response and crisis procedures, including medical, environmental, and security threats.
  • Act as a trusted security partner to Events, Marketing, Facilities, Legal, IT, and Executive teams throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Manage third-party security providers and event security budgets to support efficient and scalable execution.

What you need to succeed
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Senior-level experience in physical or corporate security with clear ownership of event security programs.
  • Demonstrated experience securing corporate events across multiple regions and regulatory environments, up to 20,000+ attendees.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage security operations for events of varying size and complexity.
  • Working knowledge of access control, surveillance systems, and incident management tools.
  • Experience managing third-party security vendors and on-site security teams.
  • Strong incident response and crisis decision-making skills.
  • Executive presence
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours during events.
