Job description

Division Overview
The mission of the ACS is to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people. The strategic objectives of the Department of Meetings and Exposition Services reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Events. The Registration Manager provides day-to-day leadership and strategic oversight for all aspects of registration across 100+ to large-scale events. This role ensures exceptional attendee experience, operational excellence, project management, and strong cross-functional alignment while owning the execution and continuous improvement of registration operations.
  • Strategic Leadership & Planning
    • Lead registration strategy and execution events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and a seamless attendee experience. Establish and manage project plans, timelines, workflows, and dependencies to deliver registration operations on schedule.
  • Operational Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead and develop registration staff, call center personnel, and temporary/event teams through effective planning, coaching, and performance oversight. Manage multiple events simultaneously, balancing priorities, resources, and risks to ensure successful delivery of registration services. Lead training and knowledge-sharing initiatives on registration systems, procedures, and best practices.
  • Registration Technology & Systems Management
    • Subject matter expert for registration platforms, overseeing system design, implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement. Partner with internal teams and vendors to manage integrations, testing, enhancements, accessibility, and overall system performance.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Event Support
    • Primary liaison between registration operations and event stakeholders to ensure alignment on requirements, processes, and attendee experience objectives. Collaborate across teams to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and drive process improvements.
  • Data Integrity, Reporting & Quality Assurance
    • Ensure the accuracy, security, and integrity of registration and financial data through testing, validation, reconciliation, and quality controls. Develop and deliver registration, attendance, and financial reporting to support event planning, operations, and post-event analysis.
  • Process design
    • Create, document, and optimize the steps, workflows, roles, systems, and decision points required to consistently deliver scalable services or outcomes.
  • Onsite Event Leadership
    • Provide on-site leadership for assigned events, overseeing registration operations, staffing, technology, and attendee experience to ensure successful event execution.

Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Requires BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience including 3+ years experience in a lead position with project management experience.
  • Experience implementing and building complicated registration sites is required (understands dataflow, paths and programming needs for registration buildouts).
  • Experience managing known registration vendors such as Cvent, Maritz, etc. is required.

This role is based in our Washington, DC office. ACS employees work a hybrid schedule, consisting of working onsite two days per work week, as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely, though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose.
A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $110,000 - $120,000 per year.
ACS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account or health care savings account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and 4-week work from anywhere; each benefit is subject to the terms of the applicable program.
