The Trauma Program Manager coordinates and maintains a comprehensive trauma program to support high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement. This role oversees trauma system development, quality initiatives, registry management, accreditation readiness, and staff education. The Trauma Program Manager partners with clinical and operational leaders to ensure trauma services meet state designation, American College of Surgeons (ACS), and organizational standards while promoting program effectiveness and growth.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates daily operations and ongoing development of the facility trauma program in alignment with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for trauma services, collaborating with medical staff, nursing leadership, pre-hospital providers, and external agencies.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains trauma program policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Oversees trauma registry operations, ensuring accurate, timely data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Monitors trauma performance metrics and outcomes, identifying trends and leading performance improvement initiatives.
  • Leads trauma-related quality improvement activities, including case reviews, peer review support, and corrective action planning.
  • Supports preparation for state designation, ACS verification, and regulatory surveys, maintaining documentation and audit readiness.
  • Coordinates and delivers education and training programs related to trauma care standards, protocols, and best practices.
  • Partners with Emergency Department and hospital leadership to align trauma program goals with organizational objectives.
  • Supports community outreach, prevention initiatives, and collaboration with regional trauma systems and emergency medical services.
  • Provides operational guidance during trauma-related events to promote adherence to established protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse required
  • 2-4 years of experience in trauma, emergency, or critical care preferred
  • Experience supporting trauma program coordination or registry activities preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of trauma systems, clinical protocols, and emergency/critical care standards.
  • Knowledge of trauma registry management, quality improvement methodologies, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyze clinical and operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary initiatives and collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with registry databases and clinical documentation systems.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure as applicable by state law required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required
  • CEN - Certified Emergency Room Nurse preferred or
  • TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course preferred or
  • ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification preferred or
  • Clinical Area of Specialty Certification Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) preferred
