What is an event marketing internship?

An Event Marketing Internship is a temporary position that allows students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in planning, promoting, and executing events for a company or organization. Interns typically assist with tasks such as coordinating logistics, managing event promotion, communicating with vendors, and engaging attendees. This role offers hands-on exposure to marketing strategies, event management tools, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. It's an excellent opportunity to build skills and network within the marketing and events industry.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during an event marketing internship?

As an Event Marketing Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on tasks such as assisting with event planning, coordinating logistics, managing registration lists, and supporting on-site event execution. You'll often work closely with marketing and events teams to help develop promotional materials, handle social media outreach, and gather post-event feedback. This role offers valuable exposure to both the creative and operational sides of event marketing, providing excellent opportunities to build skills in communication, teamwork, and project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event marketing intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Event Marketing Intern, you need a foundational understanding of marketing principles, event planning, and strong organizational skills, often supported by coursework or experience in marketing or communications. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, event management software (like Eventbrite or Cvent), and social media platforms is commonly required. Exceptional communication, teamwork, and time management skills help interns stand out by ensuring seamless coordination and creative problem-solving. These skills are crucial for executing successful events that engage audiences and drive brand awareness.

What is the difference between Event Marketing Internship vs Event Coordinator?

AspectEvent Marketing InternshipEvent Coordinator

Work EnvironmentInternship setting, assisting marketing teams, often in office or event sitesFull-time role managing event logistics, on-site coordination
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by marketing departments, event agencies, and nonprofitsUsed by event planning companies, corporate clients, and venues

While both roles involve event-related tasks, an Event Marketing Internship focuses on supporting marketing campaigns and gaining industry experience, whereas an Event Coordinator manages the entire event planning process and on-site execution. Internships are ideal for those starting their careers, while coordinators typically have more hands-on experience.

What should I do as an event marketing intern?

As an event marketing intern, you should assist with planning and executing promotional events, coordinate logistics, create marketing materials, and engage with attendees. Developing skills in communication, organization, and social media tools can enhance your effectiveness in the role. Internships often involve working closely with the marketing team and may require flexibility in schedule and tasks.

Job description

Happy Hospitality Marketing Internship

Part-Time | Paid | On-Site (Chicago, IL)

As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting our marketing team, working across marketing, content, and brand initiatives while learning directly from industry leaders. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love all things marketing and social media, and want the chance to collaborate and brainstorm with a creative team, this is the perfect opportunity for you! We're a rapidly growing, trendy restaurant group shaking up industry, and we're on the hunt for a creative and dynamic MarketingIntern to help us spread the word and tantalize taste buds across the digital landscape.

About Us:

We’re the marinara-muddled minds behind Happy Camper, Homeslice, and Paradise Park with locations in Chicago, Denver and Las Vegas. Our restaurants are wall to wall with lights, murals, and vignettes for the perfect gram. We are known for our art-inspired spaces, delicious food, and great vibes. If you ask us, the experts, there's not a better combination of pizza, booze, vibes, and happiness in the whole universe than what you'll get here.

 What You'll Do:

  • Work with the Brand Manager in developing and executing advertising campaigns.
  • Partner with the marketing team on merchandise collaborations and in-restaurant marketing initiatives.
  • Assist in creating and executing exciting campaigns, promotions, and events that drive engagement and brand awareness.
  • Contribute to social media strategy and content creation, identifying new opportunities to enhance our online presence.
  • Support event nights and activations, helping with set-up, customer engagement, and on-site execution.
  • Handle day-to-day social media tasks such as influencer research, community management, and trend tracking.
  • Create engaging visual assets and Canva collages to support marketing, social, and content initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

  • A strong interest in marketing, advertising, and brand strategy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an in-person team environment.
  • A social media enthusiast who keeps up with the latest trends, platforms, and content styles.
  • Passion for the restaurant, food, and hospitality industry.
  • Strong creative and photography skills, with an eye for capturing engaging visuals.
  • A proactive, curious, and idea-driven mindset.
  • Previous experience in social media management or content creation is a plus, but not required - we're more interested in your passion and potential!
  • Must be available to work on-site in downtown Chicago 2–3 times per week.
  • Must be 21 or older due to job-related requirements involving alcohol-focused events.
